I found that while inflation exists, correlations between actual and published effects were quite high. I think a lot depends on what you define as "the problem". (do we have overblown effects vs. is the big picture correct).
I've run simulations on how this affects the discourse as a whole and it seems scientific discourse is fairly robust against this. Correlations between published results and actual effect sizes are quite high even if there is bias. I can show you if you want (not published, but I have an online sim)
...then again, cargo ships are already quite climate friendly (I had AI calculate it and the footprint for container ships is probably lower than sailing). They still use lots of fuel, but it's just crazy how much freight they transport. They're roughly a factor 1000 better than cruise ships.
I (psychologist with some focus on media) see it as an attention issue. Basically humans turn toward anything new and close, such as newspapers and a rattle in a bush. Social Media has just found a very efficient way to provide that. Attention seems to fit the pattern better than addiction to me.
I've run sinulations and basically any corrective works. Just so that correct results have a better chance of getting out than false ones. It's not all that important to avoid false or corrupt results altogether.

Ah, I so want to love this, but the first two episodes to me were rehash (the premise is "species", "trouble in paradise" has been its own genre for a while now and why is she angry all the time, should she not be sad over her loss, afraid, lonely or just exhausted? Or even mildly open to empathy?).
