I am delighted to have an excerpt from my forthcoming book, Surety, featured in Ambient Receiver issue 3.

This issueβ€”this whole magazineβ€”is so beautiful and thoughtfully curated.

Four panel comic with the header "Close Shave" featuring a translucent bird musing on a tree branch
Panel 1: "If I believed I was made of ice"
Panel 2: "I'd also have to believe I could melt"
Panel 3: "So I must be made of flesh and bone"
Panel 4 (the bird is dripping now): "To which no harm can ever come"

A poster for the economic blackout on February 28. It is a big red Jack rabbit on an aqua blue back ground. It says economic blackout in hand done black type. There are two black speech bubbles. One says β€œdon’t buy stuff Friday February 28th. The other says we have power. Below it says No Amazon, Walmart, target, gas food, gas. Below that it says OK small business, use cash. Designed by Martha Rich.

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!

What are some of the examples of mutual aid, solidarity and self-organizing, improvised community support you've seen in the L.A. fires? Thanks!

Arctic Play – Mita Mahato Mahato’s poetic attention interacts with ideas and observations about community and climate, and the spaces in her language are literally filled in with color.

I wrote about Mita Mahato’s ARCTIC PLAY, and impermanence, climate, grammar, color: www.full-stop.net/2024/11/22/r...
