In general I love protected intersections and use them as designed, but I do worry about the geometry of some of them.
The much maligned Hopkins / Alameda one in Berkeley has been wonderful for pedestrian safety.
There are a few I skip, like 43rd and Adeline in Emeryville
i wonder if some of the islands can have mountable angled curb sides facing the cyclist so if you accidentally ride into it, you might not wreck.
Berkeley could have closed the northbound car lane between Durant and Bancroft instead, and put the bike lane and pedestrian walk there instead.
In the north direction, that lane has very light car traffic, and cars could use Shattuck instead

Note the adjacent available empty loading zone.

Often wonder how much of Ashby traffic is people avoiding the MacArthur Maze by driving the full length of Ashby.
Not sure how to measure it.
