On the Limits of Alpine Plants: A Systematic Review of the Factors Behind Species' Elevational Range Limits This systematic review of 107 studies on the factors behind the elevational range limits of alpine vascular plants shows a persistent emphasis on upper limits and abiotic factors, especially temperat...

Our new review is finally out! 🌿 I’m especially excited because this is the first chapter of my PhD!
Have a read to see what shapes the range limits of alpine plants besides freezing temperatures ❄️

Building the backbone for Europe’s biodiversity monitoring - Nature Reviews Biodiversity Understanding biodiversity loss and achieving global commitments requires effective biodiversity monitoring. This Roadmap outlines the necessary steps to achieve a transnational European Biodiversity Observation Network built around Essential Biodiversity Variables, combining targeted sensing methods, spatial design, data sharing, data integration and modelling workflows, and coordinated governance to deliver policy-ready insights.

New paper out:
Daniel Kissling, Henrique Pereira and many nice colleagues: Building the backbone for Europe’s biodiversity monitoring.

Last week was probably the best week, so far, to go skitouring. More snow than in the previous weeks, and despite increasing avalanche risk still enough routes to chose from while still being defensive in the selection. [1/2]

💚 At the end of this #LoveDataWeek, we celebrate the power of data to connect ideas, solve problems, and the people who make it meaningful every day. 📊
🌱 Protecting biodiversity depends on better monitoring and smarter use of data to understand how nature is changing and make informed decisions.

Conceptual graphic of the project aims. Depicted is a schematic of the root economics space (RES) with added exudation traits (Work Package 1: integrating exudates into the root economics space). The lower, brown-colored half of the background shows labels such as soil nutrients, soil pH, and soil moisture, with arrows (effects) pointing toward the RES (Work Package 2: environmental filtering of exudation strategies). The upper, green-colored half shows labels such as productivity, carbon cycling, greenhouse gas, and nutrient cycling, with arrows (effects) pointing from the RES toward this area (Work Package 3: effects of exudation strategies on ecosystem functions). Pictograms of a cow, a tractor, and a fertilizer bag signify land-use effects that mediate these interactions.

We are searching for a PhD student!

Are you curious and excited to unravel how #root #exudation varies between species, how this relates to the root economics space and if and how it explains ecosystem functioning and species distribution in #grasslands?
