Shelfies #73: Henry Wessells He told me to change one word (he was right), and we were friends for more than 25 years.

If you can believe it, we've reached #Shelfies 78! (or is it 73?). Antiquarian bookseller Henry Wessells shares some of his favourites here, including Kavan, Gilman and Straub. What else can you spot?

Don't forget you can subscribe for a free shelfie in your inbox once a week! BOOKS!

Starting probably with AUSTRAL, through WAR OF THE MAPS and BEYOND THE BURN LINE (both of which I loved) and into LOSS PROTOCOL.

28.02.2026 21:53 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

but mud HAS to be involved or why even bother

28.02.2026 21:52 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Well, I started reading Paul McAuley's LOSS PROTOCOL. I have a sense of Paul having quietly began a sort of new phase, from the extravagance of say, FAIRYLAND to the melancholic grandeur of THE WAR OF THE MAPS, continued here, with some lovely, quiet, heartfelt writing.

28.02.2026 21:51 ๐Ÿ‘ 12 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

also well done! but will you have to mud wrestle paul kincaid (i like to imagine that's how the winner is decided)
