My organisation charges other NGOs with a large income to buy tickets to attend our events. The idea is that that allows us to cover the travel expenses for unfunded grassroots and people seeking asylum. It’s embarrassing to see lack of solidarity - few groups are prepared to do this.
Hunting down undocumented migrants takes place in the UK too: we have our own ICE – Immigration Compliance and Enforcement teams.

I think it’s natural for anyone to sink into foul mood after sitting at the computer 13 hours. That was me today.
PS One very minor point - this Times article uses Right to Remain's material... I felt incredibly ambivalent about that, given what the article is talking about.
A big thank you to all the anti-racist groups and people who are defending people in the asylum hotels. I hope other social justice movements (continue to) join us in protecting asylum seekers’ rights and dignity – we are in this together.
‘Crisis’ also provides a potential opportunity for crazy ideas to be normalised. See Reform’s policy proposals – too vile to mention what they are here, but have now been fed into public space. We really cannot let these proposals turn into reality.
If this goes ahead and the precedence is set, other judicial oversight over other matters could be removed more easily. Cue - a collapse of a legal system that is intended to protect people from the wrong or unfair decisions by states. Surely no one wants that?
Any issue framed as a 'crisis' gives states an opportunity to curtail people's rights & liberty. This manufactured asylum hotel 'crisis' has emboldened the government to propose removing judicial oversight over asylum appeals as a solution. A TERRIBLE idea.
