“No one reads the news anymore”

Idk, maybe because the people who bought up all the outlets have gone out of their way to not give people what they want?

When I go out drinking with the other reporters and we start designing the outlet we’d make if someone handed us a check, the two recurring things on the wishlist are more court reporters and a revival of the Arts and Culture section

this is yet another big downside to the decline of news outlets. It used to be that you could find out about a new restaurant, art show, band, book, etc. by reading your local paper. Now, we have to rely on word of mouth or social media campaigns, which are much more dependent on your networks.

Editor’s note: Why the fake Daily News cover worked Journalists worked hard to earn respect – even from the president.

"New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s gambit of flattering President Donald Trump with a mocked up front page of the future – 'Trump to City: Let’s Build' – only worked so well because of the blood, sweat and tears that Daily Newsers since 1919 have put into making the paper a respected brand."

City Island's monorail in 1910.

#DidYouKnow City Island in the #Bronx once had its own #monorail? When the monorail opened in 1910, it was the only monorail in the United States. It ran from Bartow Station (a now long-forgotten ruin inside Pelham Bay Park) to Marshall's Corner, and over a bridge to the tip of City Island.

Because while LLMs can write as poorly as the best of us, only we humans can get the info in the first place.

JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR, with whom JUSTICE KAGAN and
JUSTICE JACKSON join, dissenting from grant of stay.
The Court's 101-word unexplained order can be summarized in just 7: "Rules for thee, but not for me." Time and again, this Court has said that federal courts have limited jurisdiction. Time and again, this Court has said that federal courts should not interfere with state-court litigation.
Time and again, this Court has said that federal courts should not meddle with state election laws ahead of an elec-tion. Today, the Court says: except for this one, except for this one, and except for this one. Ignoring every limit on federal courts' authority, the Court takes the unprecedented step of staying a state trial court's decision in a re-districting dispute on matters of state law without giving the State's highest court a chance to act. Because that order violates basic principles of jurisdiction, federalism, and equity, I respectfully dissent.
