Just last week the German government gutted the heating law which was supposed to drive a transition away from gas.
The timing could not have been worse: Gas prices are up 50% today and this crisis could worsen significantly. This will happen again and again and the consumer pays the price.
Picard management tip: When you've gotten enough sleep, an impossible task becomes an interesting challenge.
Picard management tip: If people accuse your organization of endangering people who wear red shirts, put on a damn red shirt every day.
What amazes me every now and then is that there is software out there that actually works.
Picard technology tip: An advanced system isn't always easy to use. Improve the interface, or try pushing buttons at random.

Picard strategy tip: Pick your battles. Fight injustices before annoyances.
It's such a cool thing to hear people still remember your impact many years later, and that things are still going well thanks to the foundations you've laid. Listening to this episode literally made my day. 🤩 www.richard-seidl.com/de/blog/soft... (in German) 2/2
Today was a good day. Until it became awesome when an ex-colleague pointed out a podcast episode in which my former CIO talks about their company's testing and quality culture. And kindly mentions me a couple of times, pointing out my contributions. 1/2
The rise of AI in testing means we can't just rely on tech; our human curiosity and critical thinking matter even more. Don’t take shortcuts—question what the machines produce and keep your skills sharp. My interview with Steve Watson: tul.fm/iyvz
Terminal output indicating LLM usage – cost $0.10, took 87s, burnt a tiny hole in my soul.
Yesterday, Claude successfully (and painfully) got authenticated with my repo.
Today, I could not work out how to authenticate personally through the commandline (I have a passcode, it needs a password).
So I'm reduced to spending $0.10 to ask the LLM to do `git push`.
WAAAAAAAAAARGH.
Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.
Picard management tip: Don't negotiate absurd schedules with engineers. Encourage truth telling and reasonable time estimates.
For those who missed my #Asahilinux #39c3 talk, it's available at media.ccc.de/v/39c3-asahi... now.
I've also just pushed my slides to github.com/svenpeter42/... and uploaded them as PDF to cfp.cccv.de/39c3/talk/YG...

The two hardest problems in Computer Science are
1. Human communication
2. Getting people in tech to believe that human communication is important
A calm North Sea under a foggy and overcast sky. A steel railing leads into (or out of) the water. In the lower right-hand side some concrete stairs are visible.
A foggy day at the North Sea on Nordstrand in December 2025. Going for a – short! – swim in 6°C water. (And then to the public pool for a longer swim in water that's 20 (℃) degrees warmer.)

Had a blast teaching Playwright on Monday!
Now gearing up for Thursday's mission: CSI: Flaky Tests.
We're investigating the crime scene of unstable automation to uncover the root cause: flawed assumptions about system state.
Come ready to solve the case!

Leaving @agiletdzone.bsky.social. Always love to visit Potsdam so I went for a very quick quick walk before departure. I love the event and every year I make some new friends. Also good to revisit the old ones, sometimes it is hard to find the time to be with everybody :) see you soon ;)

@gilzilberfeld.bsky.social is killing it: "The application might be completely broken inside - like some of us."
