Hoping that, when the Academy collapses, they'll have appeased the AI-Overlords enough to earn themselves a low-level boot-scraping job?
February is here which means itβs time to dial in the gig-rig for 2026. Going to be a fun year making loud noises.
"... But in the end, itβs only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer..."
Watched Two Towers in the theater this afternoon. Needed this timely reminder from Samwise Gamgee.
"Itβs like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didnβt want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened....
Envious both of you (for getting to teach such a great course) and of your students (who get to take such a great course with you)!
New conference paper proposal means new books!
It's probably the 90's and early 2000's video gamer in me but I always read LFG as "Looking for Group" and am, as often as not, confused about it. ππ€¦
Bluesky wonβt let me post one per month, but here are some βGreatest Hits.β Another year in the books. Bring on 2026!
Last show of the year last night.
Time for gig-morning warm-ups!
Now for a limited time, the "Serving-Two-Masters Day-Planner App"...
Finally home from the day's travels. Merry Christmas, Bluesky.

Gaudete! Gaudete! Christus est natus ex Maria virgine! Gaudete!
May be safe to assume if they narrate audiobooks pseudonymously, they do so for a reason. (No shade. Just throwing it out there.)
He's not always super keen on trying new things, so I was a bit nervous when I heard that Ian's class Christmas party would be at the skating rink. But this kid jumped right in, strapped on the skates, got himself up when he fell down, and had a great time. Super proud of him!
I dislike endnotes in general. I can ignore footnotes if I want. The constant flipping back and forth to consult endnotes makes it hard for me to concentrate.
Today's office vibe: advent candles, lamp light, fireplace sounds, and the Vince Guaraldi trio. Can't be beat.
We will not hate you.
Might hate myself a little, but not you. π
SO good! Every contribution was stellar. Can't say enough good things about it.
Belated #sblaar25 post: I had the privilege of reviewing this wonderful book by @jeremiahcoogan.bsky.social, @candidamoss.bsky.social, and Joseph Howley at this yearβs conference. It was a pleasure to read and you should definitely check it out!
Mini-me stealing my spot.
I did not take as many pictures at #sblaar25 as I have in the past, but it was still a great conference. Love getting to hear exciting new ideas and meet up with friends (new and old). See you next year inβ¦Denver? I think?
Amazing!
I mean, as long as you still play guitar sometimes. π
I love this origin story.
