A big issue when it comes to characters in LGBT+ manga etc is the fact that they basically never get referred to in the original text in any explicitly gendered way besides whatever 1st person pronoun they use (which have implied but often loose gender) so scanlators fight over stuff like this a lot
Japanese 3rd person pronouns are typically explicitly gendered, but Japanese grammar makes 3rd person sentences without pronouns extremely easy to construct (the subject of a sentence can be implied, so if you refer to someone by name to start you can go multiple sentences sans pronouns at all)
