Battle Royale is an insanely fun and bloody splatterfest.
Scars of Dracula is a subpar Hammer horror, though Christopher Lee is, as usual, great.
Re-Wind is more porn than gore.
It Was Just an Accident deserves all the accolades.

This line encapsulates everything about Battle Royale (2000, Japan) directed by Kinji Fukasaku.

Lieder ohne Worte, Op. 19b: Lied ohne Worte (Song without Words) No. 6 in G Minor, Op. 19, No. 6, "Venezianisches Gondellied" [Venetian Gondola Song]

I love a simple classical piece, like this from Mendelssohn.

Agreed. She and director Mervyn Leroy did not get along. He predicted that she would not have much success in Hollywood. Boy was he wrong.

Two delicately poignant teen movies dealing with sexual awakenings, bookended by a β€œso bad it’s really bad” slasher in the woods horror and an edgy Mervyn Leroy pre-code melodrama.

A wonderful double feature. Similar themes, similar age, similar settings, similar struggles.

I savored every episode of this journey. Fittingly, bittersweetly, and unintentionally, I completed that journey today, at the beginning.

Such a good cast, too. It’s impossible to make a bad movie with Brad Dourif!

I was at an AirBnb in Florida and I searched for it on their TV. It came up on, I believe, DirectTv.

A rare occasion where a reimagining is worthy of the original.

Agreed. Suspiria is one of my all time favorite movies. Trauma was watchable but just not good. His 2012 Dracula was not even watchable. It’s as if he didn’t even try.

I love Dario Argento, but 90’s Dario Argento, not so much.
I respect your opinion if you love the Creep franchise. Please respect mine for hating it.
Thankfully, I was able to restore my faith in cinema with two classics.

Two all time greats bookended by two more modern fare.
Hamnet (2025) has a lot of ACTING in it, hence the hammy title?
Wuthering Heights (1939) and Ben-Hur (1959) are breathtaking.
HappyEnd (2024) is a fine coming of age story from Japan.

Oh, no. RIP, sir. Thank you for being part of one of my most favorite, treasured movies.

"A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They're just backing away from life. Reach out. Take a chance. Get hurt even. But play as well as you can. Go team, go! L-I-V-E. LIVE!" β€” Maude

I think it’s because of the nepotism. Seems like everyone in Hollywood is a nepo baby who grew up well off. So they’re gonna write about what they know. And they don’t know what it’s like to grow up working class.

A tour de force by Richard E Grant.
Elke Sommer dances with the devil in a deliciously bonkers Bava.
Rose Byrne is great in an otherwise underwhelming movie.
The Lure is like The Umbrellas of Cherbourg but with killer mermaids.
