i'm not hiding my sadness in missing out on this one. and we get ignored a lot! we submitted to the editors of the list and sent books
i'm usually not this petty but the big list of 100 small press books from 2025 missing even a single book from my press is kind of baffling to me
See the whole lineup and read my letter here: www.hubcity.org/news/lauren-...
cc @katearden.bsky.social and @rainbowfish523.bsky.social who have worked so tirelessly everyday to make this incredible thing what it is today.
In Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and West Virginia, ACA enrollment has tripled in the last five years.
Nearly all of the enrollees in Florida, West Virginia, Alabama, and Mississippi are getting subsidies.

My husband is going to Hanoi for ten days for work and itβs been (checks watch) 8 hours since I dropped him off at the airport and Iβm already beside myself that heβs gone for so long
Wild to me that we could get our NEA funding stripped and an Indie Next pick (and big national coverage, watch this space) in a 3 month span. All kudos to @katearden.bsky.social and @rainbowfish523.bsky.social--I truly think @hubcitypress.bsky.social is singular and punching way above our weight.

honestly a lack of research from a lawyer with a classics degree pretending to be a writer is so much less concerning than what i found out when i read the goodreads reviews. 90% of them are one star rage posts. HC must just print these books as literal rage bait. at least people are buying them...
Once again, @hubcitypress.bsky.social is looking for experienced readers for paid manuscript reading this fallβboth fiction & nonfiction. You'd be the first eyes on submissions and help us decide what requires a closer look. Email relevant experience to jobs@hubcity.org. DM with questions.
It's truly a bummer that PEN/Hemingway award moving to PEN/Faulkner foundation means they eliminated the submission fee waivers for publishers who have less than $2 million in sales. We spend thousands in prize submissions every year just to be considered for these things--it made a difference.
to call this a crime against humanity is true but inadequate β itβs a crime against all creation

Thanks, @megireid.bsky.social and @katearden.bsky.social! I am so excited that you are bringing THE RITZ OF THE BAYOU back into print. Looking forward to writing more about Nancy Lemann, Louisiana, New Orleans, and her entire body of work.
hey siri, does the military like it when they are subjected to open disrespect from civilian leaders?
"...we donβt advocate for violence, but when they use brutal violence against our peopleβand kidnapping mothers and fathers from children is violent βwhen they do things like that, we have every right, every historic right, to defend our communities by any ways that we can."
