We need more clarity on where the boundary is between AI Voice & AI Content
Otherwise new telco AI applications could face extra regulatory hurdles

Not aware of the options tbh
Not always that easy - especially given where Mint Ct is relative to the river, Tower Bridge & Tower of London, St Catherineβs Dock etc
Numerous other challenges:
- sunk costs of existing infrastructure, vehicles, heating systems
- aluminium, steel, concrete, fertilisers, glass etc are all hard problems
- datacentres need dispatchable power & backup. Mostly gas turbines now, hopefully SMRs later
Multi-dimensional tightrope!
I would certainly pay a premium for branded, unambiguous nuclear energy, esp if a % is reinvested in R&D for new reactor designs & fusin
That said, political and economic pressures for fast transition are weakening for multiple reasons
Eg Not sure weβll see many electric military vehicles soon
I broadly agree, but think that batteries plus solar/wind is insufficient for cold climates & high latitudes where gas heating is prevalent
Also lots of industry will struggle with renewables
Huge growth of nuclear + SMRs fixes some of the problems. Very good to see renaissance in that domain
I hadnβt realised that oil tankers account for 40% of maritime fuel consumption. Good point
But I still think youβre overoptimistic / unrealistic about the inertia changing, esp given geopolitics trajectory
I think climate will need fairly extensive use of carbon removal + maybe geoengineering
Not 100% sure about that
Aviation & maritime fuel is still hard to replace, for instance. Various petrochemicals too
Obvs we will have much more nuclear & solar by then, but not everything can be electrified
May also be able to do carbon capture at scale in 25 years to offset fossil fuels
Itβs nonsense, especially at scale & for anything needing interconnection or low latency
(Latency will average as high unless you replicate data+workload across multiple satellites in orbit, otherwise it could be 20k km away)
What are the right #metrics and stats for #NetworkAPIs? Following on from Andrew Collinsonβs great article the other day, I've given some more thought to what's missing, and what will need more careful definition.

There are maybe 10 billion microphones which arenβt in phones or laptops
Ambient Voice is a huge potential opportunity for telcos & CPaaS providers
In-person speech can be integrated with B2B workflows, especially with AI enhancement
open.substack.com/pub/deanbubl...
The new AWS Nova 2 Sonic model looks very interesting as a way to take speech-to-speech AI mainstream in contact centres & conversational interactions
Integration with Vonage & Twilio & Amazon own Connect contact centres & voice/calling APIs too

Unpopular opinion: @OpenAI @ChatGPTapp is getting better, not worse - and Iβve been unimpressed by @Google #Gemini 3 so far.

Last week I attended WiFi NOW Global Congress in Dubai. It had a great set of presentations and panels that covered a range of Wi-Fi themes, from WiFi8 to sensing to IoT.

The proposals for the European Commission DNA include some which would harm many smaller telcos & innovative CSPs, favouring big telcos instead
Iβve done another video with CCIA Europe highlighting the risks
Protect the mammals!

Could a combination of #AgenticAI and the new interface layer of #MCP be the magic catalyst for #telcos exposing #APIs to developers and monetising their resources and capabilities?

Some thoughts from yesterdayβs DSA Dynamic Spectrum Alliance summit in Dubai:
www.linkedin.com/posts/deanbu...
I see a new challenge for #6GHz spectrum. But not in the US - in Germany and the EU.
It seems that some policymakers think it should be best used for 5G / 6G, rather than shared or dedicated to unlicensed use.
Thatβs a mistake

My Telco Voice+AI slides from the recent keynote at Alianza Navigate 2025
Key oppoβs for telcos - and the need to understand what βvoiceβ actually is!
www.linkedin.com/posts/deanbu...
I like the idea of wireless sensing, whether thatβs in WiFi or 5G / 6G
But I suspect it will face a variety of practical and technical problems
In particular, new security challenges will undoubtedly arise:

"The European Commission is considering regulating hashtag#IPinterconnect, even though almost everyone agrees it works well today".
"Interconnect rules and 'dispute resolution' would wreck many AI concepts and business models".

If telcos want to be serious players in AI, they need to get serious about energy supply.
And that means having a nuclear strategy.
Most of the cloud & datacenter companies already do
Telecoms is years behind. That needs to change.

This is a fascinating innovation by IBM Research and others, combining three trends I'm currently following:
- Voice + AI combinations
- edge inferencing
- post-digital technologies

Thereβs a lot of rather self-serving arguments from network vendors that AI will βobviouslyβ drive renewed increases in data traffic
I think many of the arguments are too one-sided

A few weeks ago, the UK Governmentβs Department for Science, Innovation and Technology launched a consultation and document on its future βstrategic prioritiesβ for telecoms, spectrum & postal services

Iβm increasingly of the view that #6G needs to feature a broad mechanism and architecture for βextensionsβ or βplug-insβ, or ways to make or integrate with customised variants.

A major challenge for #telcos wanting to remain relevant in #voice services and #telephony is grasping the concept of βintellgent audioβ.

This announcement caught my eye - two US vendors Eridan and Patero Inc. have integrated #postquantum #cryptography (#PQC) directly into an #OpenRAN radio unit for secure #5G networks.

I have an idea for @LinkedIn @LinkedInHelp which could make its feed much more useful: algorithm-driven curation, but with more user control. Or perhaps use #AgenticAI

Used AI to help create a couple of things today:
- A keynote speaker website (at deanbubley-speaker.com)
- An ultra-snarky custom GPT for critiquing policy documents, regulatory filings & consultation responses, & lobby groups' white papers and articles
