“It’s a kind of muscle memory, the heart remembering even when the mind has forgotten.”
A beautiful essay about a beautiful film.

Same exact origin story! Pure magic.
Just like the bartender’s bat! It’s like he put the dollar in the “love lives today” jar, heard Marion say something more effective, then just pivoted. Wielding/appropriating others’ stories/ideas in order to stoke fear in a susceptible group… a terribly familiar concept in America. Man HK rules.
The Lure is a super fun and dark take on mermaid lore and the songs absolutely rule!

Italian exploitation film: the most graphic upsetting violence you’ve ever seen.

"Separating art from the artist" is always a complicated conversation.
But when an artist says they are going to use their art's proceeds to further hurt marginalized people, don't just believe them, SHUN THEM.
The Trans community needs your support more than you need ANOTHER fucking Harry Potter.
Notice she's not talking about "criminals" anymore. Now they're onto who they perceive as their enemies, including the people *we* elected. They want to use L.A. to show they can force liberal cities into submission.
I don’t know… I’m a little (read: very) high on this right now and I think I went somewhere special and I’m not really interested in coming back. #Sinners
Count Orlock has #Oscars opinions…

A handful of first-time Lynches in Feb top this list, but Wild at Heart (on the big screen) takes the cake.
Pandemic couple goes to first concert together in 2025. 😍😊 @curtiswaugh.bsky.social
Movie stars with charisma and chemistry! Big goopy monsters! Dancing! A kickass Reznor/Ross score! A little JSA thrown in your King Kong spider-pit! Dancing!
Loved #TheGorge.
My most interesting top ten list to make each year… favorite movies new to me in the year 2024!
'I can't make money without breaking the law and therefore you should let me break the law' is one helluva flex. futurism.com/the-byte/ope...
I saw Brad Paisley for my first concert in ‘07 (oh boy, I KNOW) and he had two openers: Rodney Atkins immediately preceded him and before that… Taylor Swift. She came out at like 5:30pm with the sun still up and opened with Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”.
A great thread on a formative DTV series! You could watch the Subspecies movies and understand the entire lifespan of home media for the last 30+ years.
Eggers’ #Nosferatu is the goods.
Succumb to the darkness. Where you accept everything about yourself even if the world is out to kill you for it.
Cold as mountain metal and smelling of death, bury me in the dirt that spit this out into existence.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson sneaky steals it.
I’m beyond honored for my short THE MOISTEST to be playing opening night of @sohohorrorfest.bsky.social at-home! Check them out, grab your turkey legs and prepare to regurgitate with their full lineup of horror magic!

But truly he brings something special in a sea of immense talent — the whole movie being a live wire of raw talent and emotion, despite the occasional inelegance. Ridley Scott, man…
LOVED Gladiator II. As much as Denzel deserves all the juice for his performance, Joseph Quinn deserves to be right up there, if only for not faltering in his complete weirdness while Denzel summons the thunder. #GladiatorII
One of our most common used house acronyms is GILOC: god I love our cats.
And starring @flyingfangs.bsky.social as another delicious demon!
For your post-Halloween (and boy are there a lot of them) doldrums… a spooky short I helped to make with @drumfarmer.bsky.social! #horror #filmmaking
Letterboxd vibe check!
If you’re looking to scratch that holiday horror/comedy itch, THERE’S SOMETHING IN THE BARN is a total delight. Think Gremlins by way of Rare Exports but with a lot more lutefisk.
This one blew me away. I was amazed by how much it made me laugh in its total darkness.
If you’ve so far missed out on BIRTH/REBIRTH, rectify that immediately. A tightly wound, expertly performed, and often unbearably horrific (in the best way) flick. Marin Ireland and Judy Reyes are phenomenal and I cannot wait to see what Laura Moss gets to do next. On #Shudder!
Wow it was right there…
