Grackle

I am a poet at the height of my powers

says the light purple sponge

covered in little mozzarella shreds

on its arc into the garbage

I am an emerging poet

says the woodpecker frightened

by the glinting CDs on their strings

too afraid to breach the treeline

I am a prize-winning poet

says the unfried catfish closing

its primeval jaw irrevocably

around the bright orange bait

I am a poet says the common grackle

accusing, lamenting

interesting etymology: β€œreview” was first coined in 1998 and it came from β€œviewing” a computer screen.

I too remember the earlier, woke wars. tons of spent microaggression munitions strewn about everywhere, friends crying out for God as they were slowly cancelled...look, if you weren't there, you'll never understand

If you're going to the Book Fair, stop by CutBank Books table and pick up my latest collection, Tricks. But be forewarned: it is raunchy, crude, and perhaps even indecent. In other words, makes a great gift.

"Where else, we ask, to put the feelings, pending revolution? A scary movie shrinks the world’s horrors down into, not manageable exactly, but bounded, feelable parcels. In a landscape dense with quiescent cultural products, horror is anti-anesthetic."
