The Constitution hasn't been interpreted that way since 1950

We've now had both houses of Congress, on party line votes, refuse to stop the use of force against Iran

to turn that around we need something more compelling than obsolete legal arguments

Chris Murphy 🟧 on X: "You have clearly not read the War Powers Act, Mike. Everything you've written is totally wrong. Everything you've written is totally wrong. The War Powers Act SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITS military action unless: a/ there is a prior congressional authorization; or b/ it's a response to an attack against the U.S..

Perhaps you could explain this to Senator Murphy before he takes his well-intentioned but futile legal interpretation of the War Powers Resolution of 1973 to court and gets told the issue is nonjusticiable

Americans will stupidly vote out incumbents merely because gasoline prices are high

And rich but stupid Americans try to curry favor with rich Sunni oil sheiks by dropping bombs on their Shia rivals

BUT combine the two (get chocolate on my peanut butter):

midterm bloodbath for incumbents

It's a Speech and Debate clause, not an arm breaking clause.

Or a Speech and Caning clause

Yes of course

but all joking aside, I don't want to suggest either that Sadler and Talarico should aspire to die as martyrs (which would be frivolous) or that Christian Nationalists have any real chance of becoming a state religion in the US (which would be unduly alarmist)

sort of

Bonhoeffer was certainly courageous

but he didn't run for office (except within the church against the Deutsche Christen Nazis)

heck

he didn't even teach middle school (like Talarico)

I didn't foresee Presbyterians

(Rodney Sadler and James Talarico)

rising up to save us from the Christian Nationalists

(this is a weird timeline)

Matter of Doe, 801 F. Supp. 478 (D.N.M. 1992) Matter of Doe, 801 F. Supp. 478 (D.N.M. 1992) case opinion from the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico

Pam Blondi wants to resurrect the old Dick Thornburgh idea that DOJ lawyers are above professional ethics

Here's what a great federal judge, Juan Burciaga, said about that in 1992

One problem Trump would have with that:

he failed to have all the federal judges not loyal to him liquidated or bribed first

even the judges he appointed now have those jobs for life and owe him nothing further

so he keeps losing in "his own" courts

Here's a 1992 opinion from Juan Burciaga (a great federal judge once arrested at a Border Patrol checkpoint because he looked like a Mexican) about a similar attempt by AG Dick Thornburgh to declare government attorneys exempt from professional ethics

Polymarket has created a betting market on the use of nuclear weapons. Everyone involved in this should be put in prison for life.

Deputy attorney generals can write all the memos they want, but law enforcement will still be questioned about home invasions

A DOJ memo used to be worth very little in federal court, but given the way things have been going lately for DOJ, it's now worth less than used toilet paper
