I think they only did “public” sidewalks: sidewalks that are not in front of businesses or housing (I think all sidewalks are public just like the roads) (I grew up with the little plows and every city I know in Quebec plows the sidewalks so to me the whole situation in the US is unacceptable)

I have heard from a program officer in mathematics at the NSF that they spent hours explaining that math grants can use the word “equality” and not have anything to do with DEI at all! They had to go through each flagged proposal one by one to prove it 😭

Honeybees are the dairy cows of bees. People brought them over from Europe to make us honey.

The problem with honeybees, esp in resource-limited ecosystems (like hey! cities!) is that they compete with our native bees for food.

I don’t know but my point is exactly your second sentence. In Montreal they have little snowplows for the sidewalks and I cannot imagine one little snowplow is more expensive than a big one, and it certainly cannot cost as much in gas. Choices are made and then presented as immutable reality.

In some sense, even Davidson is a victim of white supremacy here. He is not solely responsible for the existence of the n word and its serious effect. So if we want to “help him” we need to dismantle white supremacy. Our (white) response to this fiasco should reflect this.

The only thing I will say about the BAFTA thing is that the issue is white supremacy. There shouldn’t be a word that can harm like this, and it’s on us white people to work every day to repair our long history of racism. And if you’re not moving in that direction, then you’re part of the problem.
