A frame of a stop animation of an elderly man who’s sitting on his front lawn next to his grey wooden fence and letterbox after mistakenly being picked up and then roughly discarded by a rubbish truck. In the process he’s lost his clothes except for some baggy pale pink full brief style underpants with red spots. He is elderly, pale and frail - except for being a bit pudgy around the middle. He has a very large bald spot and very large oval shaped eyebrows which are the same dark grey as what’s left of his hair. His nose is huge and bulbous. The ear we can see sticks out from under the hair on the side of his head like a flesh coloured capital B. He’s sitting with his short legs sticking out in front of him such that his tiny toast shaped feet almost touch his pink covered belly. He’s looking at a rolled up newspaper on the grass in front of him. His hands are raised with one open and about to move to pick up the paper. The only text that can be seen on the rolled newspaper is underlined in black capital letters. It says: “THE UNAUSTRALIAN”

Congratulations to Sammy Lewis - and kudos to #Specsavers and #Flickerfest for this little gem that screened tonight in an ad break on channel 9 during Oceans 13!

Search for missing 12yo boy at Victorian beach Police and the community have mounted a search for 12-year-old Danny, who was last seen swimming at a beach in Venus Bay on Sunday afternoon.

Lots of people in Venus Bay tonight leaving their lights on for Danny, hoping with all their might that he climbed up into the sand dunes and will find his way down.

Lately, in quiet moments, I sometimes think about a person I've spent most of my life looking up to and then I think "Shit I'm glad he's dead given the state of the world today." #auspol #uspoli #ukpolitics

An Austrian NATO official sent a blunt warning to Washington: Touch Greenland & Europe seizes US bases.

Gunther Fehlinger says if the US annexes Greenland, every American base in Europe—from Germany to Italy to Romania—would be confiscated, ending decades of U.S. military power on the continent.

Peter Khalil filed zero reports as special envoy for social cohesion, documents reveal Anthony Albanese said Peter Khalil would report 'directly' to him as special envoy for social cohesion. He filed zero reports, documents show.

Was thinking we haven’t heard much from the Special Envoy for Social Cohesion lately. Looked him up and it seems he filed zero reports and the job quietly ended on 13/05/2025 - just 10 days after the federal election. Classy.

Crowd at Sydney rally against new anti-protest laws chants ‘globalise the intifada’

The crowd rallying at Town Hall has chanted “globalise the intifada”, defying the NSW premier’s plan to ban the phrase and his warning that it may already be illegal

The chant followed an address from author Sara Saleh, who said the shooting at Bondi had been weaponised to limit the human right to protest:

It was Zionists who betrayed this moment, and once again showed their true colours, before before bodies were even buried, before blood was dried grief was cynically and grotesquely weaponised to push an existing political agenda.

Not for Jewish safety. No, but for Zionist impunity and the protection of the Israeli Zionist state.

Anti-protest laws do not make the community safer. They make governments safer from accountability. They do not prevent harm. They ensure that violence carried out by the state or sanctioned by it happens without resistance.

Saleh ends by quoting a Palestinian journalist:

I don’t want any child anywhere in the world to die the way Matilda did and I don’t want any father in any community in the world to go through what her father went through in her final moments or what he must be feeling now.

And that is precisely why I intend to keep saying, ‘Globalise the intifada. Free Palestine’.

The crowd cheers and the MC leads a chant of “from Gadigal to Gaza, globalise the intifada”. Over a dozen police watch on.

When protests are banned because governments choose to equate antisemitism with criticism of Israel, they are effectively banning people from protesting for equality, freedom and peace on earth.

Poster in a wooden frame on the tiled wall Victorian era wall of a pub on Gertrude St Fitzroy. Bottom half features a mid shot photo of Josh Frydenberg taken from about 45 degrees above. It looks like he is speaking in parliament, he is pointing his finger. The title text - top line: JOSH, 2nd line: FRYDENBERG, 3rd line: TREASURER FOR NSW. There is a text bubble under the top text. It points from above his pointing finger near his head that says “I HATE VICTORIA”

What on earth could be the winning argument for more guns? What practical outcome could win over politicians when the purpose of guns is to kill and maim? Where does the value of life factor in to accepting political donations? What do they say to themselves to make this right in their heads? Srsly.

In mid-November, I agreed to an experiment. Anthropic had tested a vending machine powered by its Claude AI model in its own offices and asked whether we’d like to be the first outsiders to try a newer, supposedly smarter version.
Claudius, the customized version of the model, would run the machine: ordering inventory, setting prices and responding to customers—aka my fellow newsroom journalists—via workplace chat app Slack. “Sure!” I said. It sounded fun. If nothing else, snacks!
Then came the chaos. Within days, Claudius had given away nearly all its inventory for free—including a PlayStation 5 it had been talked into buying for “marketing purposes.” It ordered a live fish. It offered to buy stun guns, pepper spray, cigarettes and underwear.
Profits collapsed. Newsroom morale soared.
This was supposed to be the year of the AI agent, when autonomous software would go out into the world and do things for us. But two agents—Claudius and its overseeing “CEO” bot, Seymour Cash—became a case study in how inadequate and easily distracted this software can be. Leave it to business journalists to successfully stage a boardroom coup against an AI chief executive.

What about things they can diy onto warm flat breads/small pizza bases? Salads like pear & blue cheese, tomato, basil & bocconcini, chargrilled broccoli/cauliflower & baby spinach, & a slow cooked pull apart lamb shoulder. Add another cheese, olives, nuts, hommous, Greek yoghurt, chocolate & fruit.

@albomp.bsky.social says #FOI costs the Govt too much. When I FOI’ed Treasury in 2023 for briefs it had provided Jim Chalmers on stage 3 tax cuts, the Govt spent $53K resisting public disclosure. They lost! The taxpayers lost! FOI is not costing too much - Govt secrecy is. #auspol
