Photo of my fluffy white cat Francie meowing at the camera with her little pink, toothless mouth open looking like the cutest lil gremlin. The words art show are written in sloppy digital crayon above and below her face.

unironically one of my favorite kinds of chicago weather
Because somehow one book (or twelve) only leads to more...
Cover of "Conundrums for the Long Week-End: England, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Lord Peter Wimsey" by Robert Kuhn McGregor.
I should say, I'm on "Clouds of Witness" in my reread, and oh my gosh, there's just so much I missed when reading it these as a youth.
So now I have on hold "Conundrums for the Long Week-End: England, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Lord Peter Wimsey" for a little light adjacent reading.

I had a birthday recently, and this year I got all the Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey books as my gift to myself.
But because I don't like the modern editions, since January I've been scouting out older mass market paperbacks of them.
Last week the last one arrived!
Ooo, ooo! I'm about to post photos of my birthday extravaganza. (Hint: Lord Peter Wimsey.)
Oooo!
I love that book. The movie was, well, not the book. A Ken Burns version would be fascinating!
yup
people are so extraordinary in what they can do
i think enthusiastic LLM use is mostly a stack of cognitive biases, unacknowledged plagiarism, and unmet needs in a trenchcoat
but also my main objections aren't about them being bad at tasks so i don't care if you think they've gotten better at it
Makes me smile every time π€
βAt the end of the day, she didnβt sound any better than some of these ultra-conservative people who were demeaning Black and Brown folk on a regular basis,β said Rev. Rodney Sadler, a Bible scholar and longtime community activist in Charlotte. βIt felt like a betrayal of the utmost.β Cunninghamβs comments proved so problematic for Sadler that he said he realized that she was βno longer worthy of being our representativeβ and he had to run against her. βIt drove me to a point of saying, βShe needs to go, and she needs to go now,ββ the 58-year-old pastor, who works at Charlotteβs Union Presbyterian Seminary, told Bolts.
this guy challenged a sitting Democratic lawmaker in yesterday's primary, angered by her pro-ICE vote, and he ousted her 70% to 22%.

Anyone know somewhere local (Chicago) that takes and distributes donations for medical devices? I still have the knee braces from surgery last year just collecting dust in my closet... These damn things cost several hundred dollars each, someone could surely use them more than me
These are amazing photos. That sun on the train platform? One of my favorite things about this city.
All the love in my heart, same as every day. Best city in the world.π₯°
Luckily they have a website and I know how to look things up.π

An article claiming US troops were told the Iran War is meant "to cause Armageddon" and usher in a return of Jesus Christ made waves on Bluesky yesterday. We saw at least 2,250 posts that repeated its core claims.
The story could be legit, but this article raises some reasons to be skeptical.
βAs classical musicians we play a lot of music by dead European white men. Which is fine - they wrote a lot of good music. But itβs not what I was brought up on. So this is a little encore in honour of the music thatβs in my foundationsβ
the company that said they hate Black people and then gave ICE free use of all their parking lots?
NOOOOOOO!!!!!
A smiling man stands with his bicycle on a concrete pier along a grey, choppy lakefront under an overcast sky. He has dark skin, locs, and a short beard, and is wearing a black puffer jacket, a grey knit scarf, blue jeans, and tan sneakers. His bicycle is a grey bike featuring drop handlebars, disc brakes, full fenders, and a black rear cargo rack.
A closer shot of the same man leaning over his bike and smiling wide, with the lake behind him and some seagulls blurred on the pier.
βI have days in the summertime when I take the whole day and I just ride through Chicago. I'll start in Uptown or West Ridge and I'll go all the way out to Beverly. And those are some of my favorite rides.β π§΅
On Monday, March 16, activist Mike Africa Jr. and scholar Dr. Krystal Strong will join Rethinking Schools editor Jesse Hagopian to discuss the story of the MOVE organization, repairing histories of state violence, and the βOn a MOVEβ curriculum project in Philadelphia [.]
So sweet!
Oh then if it's Kurt Weill's birthday I get to post the Nick Cave version of Mack the Knife

If you don't have it I can lend you my copy (it was the 33WF book group reading for Jan/Feb). I had read it previously but it really helped to re-read and discuss.
