Thinking about industry, class, reality TV, and the spectacle of punishment as filtered through me knowing so much about MAFS and *never having watched it*.

Here's the deets.
2025 Green Room Awards (Vic) - Cabaret
'Bastard Joy' nominated for:
- Outstanding Artiste
- Outstanding Production Design (costume/AV)
- Outstanding Original Songs
- Outstanding Musical Direction
Which is cool bc it's hyperpop electroclash fashion forward w AV & chickens π
A punter kindly emailed me after seeing 'Bastard Joy' in Perth (nommed for 4 cabaret Green Room Awards) & asked if I had a Patreon. No, but I have Kofi!
I don't expect handouts, though it is becoming impossible to survive as an indie live performer. So...just in case...

THANKS LIZZIE!!
Geraldine stands on stage wearing a black body suit, a green puffer jacket with ridiculously long arms, black boots, green sunglasses Behind her is a screen with Bastard Joy projected onto it in pink and red You canβt tell from the picture but she is actually belting out an original ballad about love. And knees. And what levels she absolutely wonβt go to in the pursuit of intimacy
So great to finally see @geraldinequinn.bsky.social in the flesh at her FringeWorld show Bastard Joy
Get along to it folks - it was worth the 10-year wait!
Killer pipes, cracking gags and a generous pinch of OMG WTF LMAO NO WAY BLOODY GENIUS
'The Perfect Neighbor' blew my socks off at Melbourne International Film Festival last year. Incredibly astute editing (Viridiana Lieberman) and directing (Geeta Gandbhir), harrowing in its grief, legacy and honesty. It left me reeling, and I am so happy that it was nominated for an Oscar.
In an effort to improve my discipline (also bc I am sick of spruiking live shows to prove I write) I started the writer's equivalent of a podcast. It's free. Still working on the discipline part (regularity). It's hopefully funny & defs short. This week's about chips.

O'Connell's mad Savile villain alone would sell it to me - SUCH a cooked idea. Plus hearing Nia DaCosta was directing too - a treat. Her evolution of 'Candyman' (2021) was terrific. Anyway, I am gonna watch 'Bone Temple' eventually.
Just rewatched DaCosta's 'Candyman', too. That ending...poetry.
Zombie kids, I did not like 28 Years Later, it felt like set up to me, silly in parts - as if a producer ordered 2 films instead of 1 (aka The Hobbit Protocol). BUT. Jack O'Connell turning up at the end as a bizarre Jimmy Savile post-apocalyptic gang leader made me go WHEEEERE WAS THIS EARLIER (1/2)
Bloody hell, rewatching The Boys S4 in 2025 is even more chilling than the first watch.
An obviously comic take on the Adelaide Writers Festival. A poorly Photoshopped picture of Barnaby Joyce in all his lying-on-the-footpath glory in front of AWF signage, with a speech bubble reading βAw yeah, bugger it, I reckon I could smash out a kidβs book, whatβs it paying?β
Look this is just what happens when I keep the Barnaby PNG on my desktop at the ready, Iβm sorry.
Watching Pauline Hanson talk about antisemitism is like that time a drunk guy at a club yelled at me that he was a feminist and then grabbed my tit and said "honk".

Stephen Miller on CNN, appearing before the White House. His mouth is open, and his face is recoiling in disgust. The chyron reads, "I can smell my own ass."
Whatβs the point of writersβ festivals β or, for that matter, writers β if they canβt discuss issues that matter? Australian arts administrators would rather destroy the whole sector than allow Palestinians to speak about genocide. Itβs beyond shameful.

Why not start the year with something my mental health almost certainly will not keep up. I LIKE A CHALLENGE.
