I do think that that studio was going to close inevitably because of how poorly Ubisoft has been managed. Making video games is more challenging than ever, and I think we are seeing the exiting of what was the third largest publisher of video games from the industry, which might not be a good thing.

I just wanna reply because I think my comments can come off as being flippant and I wanna hold in my mind that me and you are two people agreeing about something but disagreeing on a small part. I don’t think it was good that they close down a studio because they unionized.

That fair but I think there is a larger thing happening here which is Ubisoft is fucked. They are asking for voluntary redundancies in countries where Studios cannot outright fire people. And these are at Studios, which make games not just support Studios of a small team of 70 people.

Bro I’m not talking about Starbucks. I’m talking about a 70 person team in a c-tier support studio. Have you any idea what the burn rate of that is? With no games coming out for them to support. Guess what they were going to get closed now or end of year.

Honestly I think Ubisoft has bigger problems to worry about out than a 70person team unionizing. I think this is more to do with a company wide restructuring than oh these guys in Halifax Canada want a union. This is not an excuse for Ubisoft, but I think the headline is a little misleading
