White House pauses all federal grants, sparking confusion
The Trump administration has put a hold on all federal financial grants and loans, affecting tens of billions of dollars in payments.
I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.
“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

The intro to One Night In Paris which is an American flag graphic with the words "in memory of 9/11/01.... We will forget"
You can't understand what the 2000s were really like without realising that the official release Paris Hilton sextape opens with a tribute to the victims of 9/11

Racism! Check out the relationship between the integration of higher education and the decision to increase tuition and cut state support for colleges. Public goods were only good when serving a specific version of the public.

My calendar counts time like this: days Naomi writes days Naomi doesn't write.
All my life, I have measured my days by the gestures of a beloved.
(I am the book resting where your hand last laid it down.
I am the patient dog framed by the open door.)
The last man wrote me letters, too.
They began Next time—or Someday I'd like to—
The one before him would close the blinds as he left.
In my bed, he said when we're apart I always imagine you here.
I let him touch my stomach, whisper I wish I could stay with you.
But a body moves only forward, its course decided.
I foat over my body and remember its arms reaching for you.
Someday I'll ask them how they knew when to touch you and when to rest.
How they knew not to lift me to the door,
but to remain.
All my life, I have measured my days by the gestures of a beloved.

This last long year has put everything we know and rely on under pressure. As the literary world starts to gather in solidarity, we at AGNI wish to thank our community for its generous support—it has steadied and heartened us.

who is the audience for AI-generated literature? novels, poetry, nonfiction? who is actually *asking* for this?
(I don’t mean the stuff that writes your work emails or meal plans, also ethically nightmarish but I can at least picture a human being wanting such a thing—even if we shouldn’t)

AGNI Magazine is on Blue Sky! I love these lines from Paisley Rekdal's poem, "My Brother":
"I want a brother to walk with me now
through these woods, to stare with me
into Death’s eyes, those glassy,
winking flames."
