Titanic ‘Plum Porter’ also goes down well. 😉

IMO, The Ladykillers doesn’t have the pace and narrative of other Ealing ‘Classics’: The Lavender Hill Mob, Titfield Thunderbolt, Passport, Kind Hearts…
And Bessie Johnson was infuriating.
I think my favourite Ealing Comedy.
Guinness is reliably malleable, and Dennis Price excels himself! 🙌
A year well spent.
One of the greatest unsung British novelists of the 20th century.

I can smell the old cellophane factory as I type… 🍻
Aka: THE Robin Cook!
And as I remember (from Who on Earth…), wipes good arse!
Late to the gig, as they say…
Ditto. 🙌
Best read of 2026 so far. @willhodgkinson.bsky.social
An antidote to those ‘celebrities’ that really aren’t.
‘If Lawrence really did achieve the goal he had been announcing to anyone who would listen… what would he become? Just another famous person, and who needs another one of them?’
A white-knuckle ride and a terrific read.
I feared more for Roger Lewis than I did for Burton & Taylor.
Elizabeth Taylor’s debut novel: the green-liveried Virago I most sought and recently found.
I still lament the passing of these covers…
‘Brookhouse Avenue’ by Jenny Cook.
Try also, Ladies of the Cochlea. 😉
Also, Victory Point: an absolute delight!
Echt Vonnegut, but Mother Night is arguably his best.
Can’t argue with those. 👌🍻
I must try At Swim again, although too much esoteric Irish mythology stuff going on.
TTP is definitely in my Top 10, and strange that I never read it with an Irish accent. 🚲
No The Third Policeman?!
He could’ve written another Ulysses, but Joyce did a very unselfish thing.
The most memorable collection of short stories I’ve read. One of which was adapted for TV in an episode of Tales of the Unexpected.
Bob Geldof’s new spring wardrobe?
All eggs in the basket of voice…
A brilliant debut and a weekend well spent.
