Homer, Iliad 15.80-3? Platonic phantasia? Either way, terrifying.
I have a new essay out today with the North American Conference on British Studies about the oligarchical urge to say that AI is going to become God

My general feeling is that every summary tool shortcuts the library shelf. In grad school there were few things I adored more than finding a book on the shelf bc I inevitably found six or seven other books on proximate shelves that I didnβt even know I needed! Process is the point!
Truly honoured indeed. Kleos aphthiton!
Introducing LEGO Prof. David Fearn on this special #ILCD10, in honour of today's host, the @uni-of-warwick.bsky.social Department of Classics and Ancient History. The real David Fearn is Prof. of Greek and Head of the Department. #InternationalLEGOClassicismDay

Shout out for the learned societies keeping a beady eye on the state of the disciplines that university senior managers are so swiftly dismantling. Keep an eye on the state of UK university Geography with the help of the @rgs.org 's new report, published this week.
'leech-like to their fainting country cling...'?
We hear way too much about angry Britain, blue-red Britain. What about the Britain of Save the Children, Oxfam, the RSPCA, the RNLI, popular environmentalism, the Britain of London's absolute triumph since its 80s nadir, its civic universities, the Britain of volunteering, giving, hoping?
Mario TelΓ²'s powerful book 'Resistant Form: Aristophanes and the Comedy of Crisis'
A concluding from TelΓ², Resistant Form, on Aristophanes, Frogs.
Tracey Emin on unashamedly luddite resistance to gross-dude Big Tech.
Partly in prep for the visit of our wonderful friend & colleague Mario TelΓ² to Warwick Classics & IAS in now less than a fortnight, I have been reading this (the Frogs chapter is mindbogglingly good, btw) - and, also, serendipitously, this (the legendary Tracey Emin, in today's Guardian).
Non-Classicists finding out about Thomas Hubbard because he turned up in the Epstein Files was not on my 2026 bingo card⦠and yet here we are.
Today's #otd photograph is of the island of Orasaigh - the subject of a unique collaboration between @steveeely.bsky.social and myself. Poetry and photography combined in a completely new way.
You can pick the book up from @brokensleepbooks.bsky.social

Here is a photo of a wild Great Grey Owl I photographed 18 years ago. Zero clue why I'm posting this today.
The unstartling conclusion is that the present is being run by a bunch of actually not very smart people.
Get rid of the consultants mentality and use your actual brains and experience.
Look out of the window: if it's raining, it is raining.

Times Magazine cover preview, Peter Mandelaon at home in his Wiltshire kitchen, with dog. "I've had a lot of bad luck, no doubt some of it my own making."
Feel like I'm going mad.
Oh good lord. I've just seen my first in-play rugby ad. Commentary audio interrupted. This nonsense will have to stop. Plus: ITV will be sure to screw this up even more badly and miss a crucial moment, rendering their coverage totally pointless.

75 lux my most-used lens on M11 so far, clearly indicative of fact that I've most often been seeking out the details in all things. As usual...
