Lately every year I think "this is going to be my last LPSC" Alas. As much as I miss my friends from the US, I think I'm staying in Canada this year. The $65 abstract submission fee was annoying after seeing the anti-DEI statement. It's my 1st year w/ the moon. Hope I find better conferences. ๐ซค

They even have a $65 abstract submission fee this year which was especially annoying to see after the glaring anti DEI statement. Im not going to go but I did submit a Lunar abstract because it's my 1st year with the moon. My abstract # is 1298. I'm hoping to find better space conferences to go to.

This bumblebee was napping on a Butterfly bush flower and now my phone has infinity photos of this bumblebee ๐ญ ๐ Look at her fuzzy butt. LOOK IT!!! She woke up after a while & immediately snacked on some nectar. Oh what a life. To nap of flowers and then eat a snack & then go back to napping ๐๐

Just realized they selected my Badwater Basin photo for Vol 60, Is. 8 of Meteoritics & Planetary Science! Thanks for picking this photo. It was hella fun capturing this view. Glad to have a paper in this issue (although would've appreciated a lil name credit 4 the photo lol). ๐

Excited to be embarking on another space mission journey this fall. This time we're off to the moon & from Canada! ๐๐จ๐ฆ Its been heartbreaking to witness the state of science in the US. I'm sad to have to leave my community. Couldn't be more grateful for another chance at being a part of a mission!

I โฅ๏ธdiy science tests. Recently found out that some people are supertasters because they have the TAS2R38 gene & only people with this gene can taste Phenylthiocarbamide (PTC). Some people learned this in school! (I missed out!)
The PTC paper tasted VILE. I'm a supertaster๐ฏ. Explains picky eaters!!!

Research Grants
Our research grants are not designed for applicants to respond to a specific request โ they are what you, scholars in the field, think we need to know more about.
The goal of all of our research...
If you are a researcher whose federal funding has been terminated, the Spencer Foundation is offering rapid response grants to close the gaps. Application deadline is June 13:
(h/t to @agu.org's Planetary Sciences Section newsletter for the info!)

Screen capture of Curiosity Rover Tweet: Important Update: As part of @NASA's effort to streamline communications, this account will be archived in the coming weeks - but don't worry my mission isn't going anywhere. For continued access to the latest Curiosity news, images, and science, please follow @NASAMars.
A bunch of NASA Twitter accounts are getting "archived". It is unclear what this means.
Accounts I've identified so far in image with alt-text.
As @kerbal01.bsky.social said, NASA is Thanos snapping twitter accounts. Dr Chris Combs described it as "Red Wedding Stuff".

A coal-black bird with a bill that covers the whole front of the face. A long grackle-like boat tail, muscular legs and an alert black eye. The bird sits on red sand next to water, as if a mud puddle or stream.

This is the Groove-billed Ani (Crotophaga sulcirostris), and it's just straight up a dinosaur.
Like, I know *all* birds are technically avian dinosaurs, but my first thought looking at this guy is: dinosaur.

Perks of living in Santa Fe include running into George R R Martin at your local medieval themed bar.
Don't worry, we didn't pester him๐
George's PA and I dance in the same dance company and they asked if we'd like a photo which was very kind of them and of George โจ
What a fun evening!

Fewer teachers signed up for Skype a Scientist this February than the last few Februarys. Could be lots of reasons for that, but ugh. Still bums me out. It's my responsibility to make sure we get people connected with science but teacher outreach is VERY hard. Once again I need to get creative.

What drives me crazy about the anti-DEI rhetoric is everyone wants to be judged on merit. But you can't be judged on merit if you can't even get in the door because you don't fit some prejudiced definition of who is capable and who isn't
