Covered Amazon’s dystopian vision of AI-enabled Ring cameras surveilling us in @nextgencompetition.bsky.social latest newsletter.⬇️

And also how Amazon is positioning itself as the infrastructure layer for all consumer IoT.

Classic leverage of market power.

People assume that gov’t inaction is the best policy strategy to support Little Tech. We pulled together conservative, progressives, LT companies, investors and found 7 discrete fed. & state policies to support Little Tech that could garner bipartisan and industry support.

All the cozying up to the Trump Administration coming back to bite Google !

β€˜America First’ is increasingly β€˜America Alone’ which means naturally but slowly (very slowly ) foreign markets shut out foreign digital infrastructure.

How’s that for your bottom line Goolge?

My take on the Apple-Google Gemini deal in @nextgencompetition.bsky.social newsletter.

➑️ Apple said in search case Google payments were to compete on AI

➑️ False

➑️ Undermines remedies ordered in Google search & another reason to appeal

➑️ Also data point in DOJ suit against Apple

The UK CMA just published proposals to give publishers more say over how their content is used and attributed in search, AI overviews & AI mode ⬇️

The DOJ is cross-appealing the Google search decision: an opportunity to re-up it asks on publisher opt-outs ?

Shocking to see the Wapo decimate headcount.

Some systemic reasons are not in our control: like print decline.

Some reasons are: like Google’s monopoly in search & the power this gives Google over publishers & how their content is used and attributed

Fixed it for you!

Jim Jordan is having another sham hearing today - as I wrote in @commondreams.org he is Big Tech’s Most Effective Lobbyist. ⬇️

What a waste of taxpayer dollars!

Anti-monopoly is the answer to this moment. We can take on corporate power and create markets that actually work for people.

I'm running for Congress b/c monopolies make our lives more expensive. The only way through the crisis is to unmake their power.

Courts alone cannot check the corrupting influence of billionaires or challenge the market & political power of the largest corporations.

We need legislators like @reedforcongress.bsky.social who can take up this challenge.

Alongside @consumerfed.bsky.social, @epic.org, and @demandprogress.bsky.social, we're proud to join an amicus brief in support of Commissioner Slaughter.

The FTC serves the public, not corporate profit, and giving the President unbridled power to fire economic regulators puts Americans at risk.

1. We must understand how and why a technology works for it to produce growth- Gen AI is a black box !

2. The ability of innovators to challenge and take business from incumbents - Big Tech's dominance is a barrier not enabler.

House Republicans keep promising a crusade against Big Tech’s power. If they were serious, they would likely find support from their Democratic colleagues

Jim Jordan has been traveling the world on our dime to lobby for Big Tech in the name of protecting β€œfree speech.” This shift from antitrust to anti-woke is a gift to Big Tech.

One way to a more competitive online ecosystem is for Apple & Google to compete vigorously.

None of Judge Mehta’s remedies makes this a more likely outcome - instead the tacit non-compete agreement between the two companies can continue.

It’s about the fact that Republicans are intentionally skyrocketing your premiums.
