More funding is needed to replace Minnesota's lead water lines - MinnPost State and federal funding for lead service line replacement will run out in 2027 if no action is taken.

"Nels Paulsen of Conservation Minnesota, another group in the coalition, said timing is of the essence to secure this funding. Cities need time to plan for 2027 projects and can’t do so if they don’t know if there will be funding available."

Brown: The quiet crisis gurgling beneath our feet Beneath the streets of most Minnesota towns lie pipes past the end of their useful life. But many cities can’t afford to maintain this crumbling water infrastructure, columnist Aaron Brown writes.

"Beneath the streets of most cities and towns in Minnesota lie pipes and sewers degrading past the end of their useful life. This is especially true in small towns and the state’s oldest cities, where some clay sewers and lead pipes installed more than a century ago are still in use."

"The study concluded that mining could not be done safely in the Rainy River watershed, which covers the national forest and flows to the Boundary Waters.

The Forest Service reached this conclusion even as they considered mitigation measures a mine might use to minimize pollution and runoff."

Burcum: The House betrayed the BWCA. The Senate is next. Congress could hand over the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness to the Trump administration, which has already shown its contempt for science and conservation.

"Passage would likely fast-track the opening of a Chilean-owned copper mine on the BWCA’s doorstep, leaving some of the world’s cleanest water at risk of destructive downstream pollution."
