As I wrote yesterday, these are actually linked. As we spend less on fossil fuels, we can also spend less on national defense. This is yet another subsidy for fossil fuels.

PLEASE HELP US SHARE THIS: βWeβve let the lies be far too successful, and thatβs significantly hurt our cities. No more.β
Itβs our blunt NEW @usa.streetsblog.org op-ed sharing why weβve created @urbantruth.bsky.social. SPOILER: We need to call out the lies and tell the truth much more persuasively!
Sometimes the best way to remove barriers is to add some.

Nothing gives me more energy than basking in the work of the REAL ONES who are staying focused on fossil fuels and climate
extremely glorious news on that front: @emorwee.bsky.social is teaming up w/ former CBS climate journo Tracy Wholf for a new video podcast -->>>
For the first time, the U.S. Supreme Court has taken up Exxonβs plea to weigh in on whether climate accountability lawsuits are preempted by federal law, writes @emdashsanders.bsky.social.
This is "no coincidence," says @thelisagraves.bsky.social, since the court is "captured" by "carbon cash."

Thank you @katharinehayhoe.com for letting me take the reins of Talking Climate this week! I wrote about emerging climate solutions in pop culture, media and sports, and what you can do as a ~content consumer~ to help make more of them: www.talkingclimate.ca/p/climate-th...
The NDP locked BC into billions in LNG subsidies.
What did we get? Few long term jobs, mostly low wage. Profits shipped offshore. Climate targets gone. Clean tech innovation underfunded while yesterday's industry gets billions. You can't easily remove a bad commitment. It's true for gas everywhere.
In a sane timeline, this sentence alone would be the end of this guyβs career.
These scientists and medical experts are taking to social media to counter climate denialism, vaccine scepticism and wellness pseudoscience

YOU CAN PRINT THAT... honestly, too many outlets not being able to share this obvious and dangerous truth is a big part of how we've gotten to where we are.
That halftime show is what people mean when they say "joy is an act of resistance."

This kind of smart, walkable, mixed-use urbanism is illegal to build in most American cities.
I DO remember that! Included the lines "Who muzzles the poor scientist?" and "Won't buy into climate change until it's sold on the stock exchange." All considered too political...he was suspended!
I couldn't figure out Harper's loathing of science until I read about his church...Scary stuff...

Choose winter: let's make Milano Cortina the last Olympics sponsored by fossil fuels.
Check out @cape-acme.bsky.social's campaign to end the deeply paradoxical fossil fuel advertising at the Olympics:

A huge 89% majority of global people [56% even in the United States] want stronger action to fight the #ClimateCrisis, but mistakenly believe theyβre in a minority.
The βsilent majorityβ for #ClimateAction needs to get loud.
People want action. Smart cities need to go much further, much faster.
βSolar, wind power, and batteries are set to make life a misery for the liquefied natural gas market.β
Not great news for Carneyβs plan to double down on LNG, but good news for the climate if the LNG projects he was pushing become uneconomical.
Same here.
If the 2C threshold is breached, the new dataset indicates the number of people experiencing extreme heat will increase from 1.54 billion people (which was 23% of the world population in 2010) to 3.79 billion (41% of the projected world population in 2050).

The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember:
- Organized a city wide general strike
- Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence
- Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE
- Flipped public opinion against ICE

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
