Phil Knight has historically been one of the largest donors to Oregon Republicans, contributing a total of $2 million each year from 2022 to 2024 to a political group that supports Republicans running for the state Legislature.

Tweet from Congressman Randy Fine: "We need more Islamophobia, not less. Fear of Islam is rational."
Truly one of the worst human beings serving in Congress today. And that is really saying something.
Here's a clip from the longer interview where Bessent is asked about oil prices and getting called to the Situation Room.
"That was always in our planning, that there's the chance that U.S Navy or perhaps an international coalition will be escorting oil tankers through."

Murphy: I have great sympathy for our soldiers and our military leaders they are being given directions by a senile old man who is losing his mind. And so it's no surprise that this war is going horribly
Oh, you know it's going bad when they have Stephen Miller out there selling it. The guy is the herald of death for Administration fuck ups. Trump's top guy for being on the wrong side of an 80-20 issue.
Breaking NYT:
The Trump admin just lifted sanctions on Russian oil currently at sea โ allowing it to be shipped to buyers around the world as Trump scrambles to contain soaring energy prices because of his war with Iran.
The admin claims the move is temporary.
Russia benefits from commodity sales during the #Hormuz crisis. At what point does it change the sanctions regime? www.linkedin.com/posts/souths...
Screencapture images of CBC and NYT using a file photo of a body of water that vaguely resembles the left-to-right shape of the Strait of Hormuz, but which is visibly not nearly to scale. This is clearly a river or estuary system (complete with visible floodplains) and not the Strait. It is missing several cities that would be clearly visible at this scale. The photo was also taken from high altitude but clearly not from outer space, making the angle of capture impossible to fit Hormuz into the same frame.
So, I've seen this image come up twice now in news coverage of the Strait of Hormuz.
First it was The New York Times' "The Daily" podcast.
Next, CBC News' generally excellent "About That" webseries.
Folks, this is not the Strait of Hormuz.
Sadly reminiscent of one of my CIA cases from 1999 when CIA officers were asked to help identify potential targets for bombing in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. They thought they identified a weapons importer but it was the Chinese Embassy instead.

Talarico on Trumpworld's "short term pain" talking point: "I'd like them to tell that to the parents of the American troops who have lost their lives. That is not short term pain. That is pain that will last forever ... no one asked for this."
My final report for CBS airs Saturday.
A feature on the 88-year-old radio pioneer who has changed lives -- and become the voice of something much more important - off-the-air.
WHY did I have to keep going down this path? Nate Cavanaugh was part of DOGE outing Mohammed Halimi, who was exiled from Afghanistan.
DOGE accused Halimi of sending money to the Taliban through his work at the Institute for Peace.
The Taliban then kidnapped Halimiโs family.
JUST IN: Judge Shah in Illinois has blocked the Trump admin from yanking $600m in public health funds from four blue states, saying it appeared to be a โcontrivedโ and illegal effort to punish them for sanctuary immigration policies storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Lt. Col. Brandon Shah was a lifelong Virginian who lived in Chesapeake where I represent with @NewCraigforVA. He was a beloved ROTC leader at ODU in a program he was once enrolled in as a young man. He will be missed terribly by our community and our hearts are broken tonight.

I wrote this thread seven months ago, and it seems like itโs about time to repost it. Perhaps more effort should be spent safeguarding communities in Michigan and Virginia than on this performative toughness.

OK, confirmation that it was synagogue security guards who shot the suspect; one of them was apparently hit by the car when it crashed into the building but not seriously injured.
