A museum display case at the Bundeskunsthalle with a bright blue interior shows various coral specimens arranged on stepped shelves. At the center sits a large wooden crate labeled βZoologisches Institut Berlin β Habana,β suggesting the collectionβs origin. Surrounding it are different coral formsβbranching, rounded, and texturedβpresented as scientific specimens. The lighting highlights the contrast between the pale corals and the vivid blue background.
A long-hidden coral collection β now visible across Germany! πͺΈ
In 1967, a team from the Museum fΓΌr Naturkunde Berlin travelled to the coast of #Cuba to extract an entire reef. The plan failed β but they returned with ~50 crates of coral (8β10 tonnes!). 𧡠1/2

Fossil leaf of the seed fern Autunia conferta from the Permian period. The pinnules show numerous small oval depressions β traces of insect oviposition. These scars occur in large numbers and likely represent sites where eggs were deposited but never hatched.
Line drawing of the same Autunia conferta fossil leaf as in. The sketch highlights the distribution of oviposition scars across the pinnule, showing their clustered occurrence.

The skeleton is exposed in ventrolateral view. The skull has been fully prepared free of matrix whereas most of the skeleton is still in matrix. The left (upper) forefin has been prepared so that it is three-dimensionally preserved and projects upwards. Scale bar (lower left) is 20 cm.

10 YEAR OLD ME IS LOSING HER MIND (a thread π§΅)
Louis Dollo, of Dollo's law and one of the founding father of palaeontology, was born in my beloved Lille. Just something I like to remember.
Thirty relatively intact iguanodon skeletons were found in a coal mine in Belgium in the late 1800s. Louis Dollo, who supervised the first assembly of these fossils, believed it was a biped, as it is shown here. We now know that this was a quadruped, meaning it walked on four legs instead of two.
