thank you for this thread!
Next week, STAG DANCE, will be issued with 100% less cardboard and half price. It's a new thing I'm trying, which I've been calling "paperback." Here's a little graphic I had whipped up to trial the idea.
Announcing the 2026 Story Prize Longlist:
Oh itβs all for what will probably be a throwaway bit. Anyway, 33 y/o, gay, & disdainful of the youth is an storied humor demographic.
This is very helpful. Appreciated!
Thank you for reviewing my book in the Washington Post while it still existed. Words (especially micro-blogs) fail to console in such moments of enormity. But your past work has mattered to many of us and is not forgotten.
bookforum is sponsoring Reading Writers this season, and CharJo are the kind of hosts that let me get earnest in a way I almost never let myself and I feel good about it! also I got to talk about Light Eaters which is a very powerful book to me
This week's Reading Writers is very dear to me. @torreypeters.bsky.social joined for a lively, funny, moving discussion about plant consciousness that I think will leave listeners inspired and hopeful about life/the world/the future/etc. Come get your balm: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/r...
Itβs okay, I just really miss coming home to those 20% off coupons loyally and reassuringly arriving in the mail after a hard day at work. Weβd put on 1989 and dance together.
As a passionate Bed, Bath, and Beyond fan, I have to tell you that BB&B was tragically liquidated in 2023, after a long chapter 11, so this analogy is really insensitive to me. BB&B under the new Overstock.com brand auspices just doesnβt hit the same.

Thank you!
I totally understand where you're coming from vis a vee that essay. That said, I think I'm not representative of the phenomenon you're discussing, so if you were willing to drop me from the list, I would appreciate it! Thanks for the work you do!
For me, part of thinking about this era as a trans person--including defying the regime, means being occasionally outside it for perspective and regrouping, and I wouldn't consider that representative of trans people at large, or use a word like refugee to describe myself. Thanks!
Appreciate this, but just a bit of clarity: I still live primarily in the US, and while I believe that self-exile is an established strategy for artists in the Americas (Baldwin in Europe, any number of Latin American writers from right-wing regimes), I have not been forced to flee.
A copy of Torrey Peters' new hardback story collection "Stag Dance" stands in front of a stack of the same book on a shelf. The cover is an illustration of two male deer with antlers fighting. One is lunging with its antlers and the other is turning its head with its tongue hanging out and looks scared. It has a pink ribbon tied to one antler. The author's name and the title are in bold pink block letters.
Hey, queer Baltimore: one of the free books in Pratt Library's summer giveaway this year is Torrey Peters' brand-new "Stag Dance". It's great. Not every branch has it but I saw it today at the Canton & Highlandtown branches and at Orleans St last week. Just show your library card to get a free copy.
I wish! How I long to sample the famed Lawrence culinary specialty: "the beverage." Hope it's a fun book night! <3

I have always said that, as a trans person, I am a dishonest grappler. When it comes to science...well, I will eye-gouge a science. I will wedgie a science. When the ref isn't looking, I stick a finger in the butt of science and then go for the pin.
This is so lovely, thank you!

Also really happy Random House production took a chance on some literal voices rare in audiobook readings: half my readers have gorgeous trans femme voices and the other half of my readers have extreme-dude voices (toxic soccer bro, gravely old-time lumberjack)
Audible named Stag Dance as one of the BEST AUDIOBOOKS OF THE YEAR (so far), and while I feel mixed on these lists--I really want to highlight the four voice actors Lee Osorio, Briggon Snow, Eileen Noonan, and Pyrrha Nicole, who brought PERFORMANCES to what could have been just a reading.
