I had the great privilege of serving in the EIS Class of 2015, responding to dozens of disease outbreaks and novel health threats.

The program is a crowned jewel of U.S. public health and a model for other countries.

Cutting this program does not, in any way, make our country healthier.

You know Kate Winslet in Contagion? Where she runs into a hot zone, risking her life, so Americans could be safer?

She was an EIS officer. That’s who was just fired at CDC today. EIS officers. And many, many more public servants fighting every day for your health.

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

Most Americans still have no idea about how F'd this country is about to get. I think if they knew it would be too overwhelming to process so they prefer maintaining the delusion, "It won't be that bad."

It'll be very bad, folks. Hold on to your butts.
