If you, as a social scientist, believe that AI is now a better social scientist than you, then (a) you’re probably right, and (b) sure sounds like a skill issue, y’know?

Professional UX designers (and to extent, all creatives) are less wowed by all this because being able to mock something up quickly is a skill we learned very early on.
And the thing you do with that mock after you make it is that you critique it. Separate yourself from the object.
First they came for the trans people, and I said nothing because I wasn’t trans. Then they were like actually I’m pretty sure you are trans and I said no I’m not and they went okay well show us your penis then and I said what no get out of my face and they said that one’s a girl get her
“Do the strategies employed by subjects of empire offer productive models of resistance and subversion?”
In the penultimate piece in our AI series, @megsmith.bsky.social offers vignettes from early modern Ireland that could suggest productive models of resistance.

OK! I collected much of what I @spookyachu.bsky.social @andreaeyleen.bsky.social (and other collaborators not on here) have said on the Turing test (from critical, gendered, etc. angles) as it keeps being relevant: olivia.science/turing — hope it's useful for others too. Happy Sunday! 🤖💭
Next up, @eliterature.bsky.social has a call out for talks on "Creative Responses to Coding and AI: from Infrastructure to Output" -- this includes open weight models, thinking about open source futures, and approaches to agents / claws / skills, etc. mla.confex.com/mla/2027/web... (2/3)
It is unfortunate that this clip stays relevant but for as long as it is relevant I'll keep reposting it

USS Gerald R. Ford's toilet crisis drags on amid deployment near Iran: The U.S. Navy's largest and most expensive aircraft carrier is facing persistent plumbing problems that have left large portions of its bathroom system out of action while the ship remains deployed amid rising tensions linked to Iran. 2 days ago
According to Wang, prolonged deployment at sea undermines crew morale and mental well- being, thereby weakening combat effectiveness. Moreover, malfunctions in the Ford's toilet system itself further amplified the problem. Crew members throwing objects into the toilets also exposes lax discipline within the ranks. Wang explained that vacuum sewage systems are in fact an advanced technology and are widely used on most commercial vessels today. However, they depend on strict compliance with operating regulations by crew members. When personnel are subjected to prolonged, high-intensity readiness tasks, their mental state inevitably changes, making it difficult to maintain strict discipline over an extended period, Wang said.
NBC News IRAN U.S. and Iran hold new talks as Trump raises pressure for nuclear deal The third round of indirect negotiations were taking place Thursday in Geneva as President Donald Trump threatens Tehran with possible military action.
OMG!
So the USS Gerald R. Ford, the U.S. largest, most expensive aircraft carrier en route to Iran, has been stalled.
Why?
Because of plumbing issues.
Apparently the crew are deliberately clogging the toilets in an effort to stave off WWIII!
This explains the last minute talks.
Bro, WUTT??? 🤣
Meta said subcontracted workers might sometimes review content, including films and images, captured by its AI smart glasses for the purpose of improving the "experience". Videos, including of glasses-wearers using the toilet or having sex, are sometimes reviewed by a Kenya-based Meta subcontractor, according to an investigation by Swedish newspapers Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) and Goteborgs-Posten (GP). "We see everything - from living rooms to naked bodies," one worker reportedly said.
Meta takes the protection of people's data very seriously, which is why their subcontractors are watching your amateur porn as they surf user data for credit card numbers.

Likevekt?
“…according to a report from Sweden's Svenska Dagbladet released last week. Employees in Kenya doing AI "annotation" told the journalists that they've seen people nude, using the toilet and engaging in sexual activity, along with credit card numbers and other sensitive information.”
What a pedagogical experience: a rotating cast of characters — all men! including plenty or heterodoxers and R-wing think-tankers! — sharing lectures "on a range of topics — from 'Why Capitalism Rocks!' to 'The Judiciary: The Least Dangerous Branch?'"
“We are in an undeclared state of war.”
After Mike Johnson says the US is not at war, and Donald Trump says it is, Lindsey Graham tells @premthakker.bsky.social a third answer: an “undeclared state of war” — which, he suggests, allows the US to illegally strike ships in international waters.
5. There are criticisms of LLMs that are much more plausible. They are built on a large scale expropriation of the intellectual commons. Demonstrably true! They involve a radical and extremely worrying derangement of power relations in favor of a tiny number of men with weird beliefs. Also true imo.
Be angry, use the anger to fuel a different project that you excel at so other people will be like "omg she is so amazing, I don't know how she does it"

Nice! Takk for utfyllende info!
