β€οΈ Thank you to all of the big-hearted donors who keep our sanctuaryβs #wildhorses and burros well fed and happy! This delivery of more than 250 bales of hay will last the horses and burros at our flagship sanctuary about 3 weeks.
The Bureau of Land Management plans to begin capturing and removing 2,075 #wildhorses and 425 burros from Nevada rangelands starting on Sunday. Read more and take action: returntofreedom.org/blm-plans-to...

You can help: The bipartisan Ejiao Act (H.R. 5544) would ban the sale or transport of ejiao or products made with ejiao. To send a message to your members of Congress in support of the bill, see returntofreedom.org/current_acti...
Exploding demand for ejiao, a gelatin made from donkey skins, is decimating donkey populations worldwide and harming impoverished people who rely on these important animals.

One change β one word β can prevent thousands of inhumane deaths each year.
That change would also place a lasting ban on horse slaughter in the United States. Right now, only language inserted into annual funding bills stands in the way of slaughterhouses reopening.
ill buyers prey on horses at auction, buying and trucking them to Mexico or Canada for slaughter.
The bipartisan Save Americaβs Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act would add βequinesβ to an existing federal law banning the slaughter of dogs and cats for human consumption.
𧡠More than 21,000 American horses die in foreign slaughterhouses, on average, every year.
With one word β βequinesβ β Congress can an end an ugly business profiting a handful of unscrupulous kill buyers.

β Take action: Send a message urging Congress to hold the BLMβs feet to the fire on fertility control use: shorturl.at/DxwZx
Yet the BLM has never spent as much as 4% of its budget on fertility control. Last year, it treated then released 921 mares β less than one for every eight it took off the range.
There's a better way rooted in real science that is more humane and fiscally responsible. Fertility control is a proven, safe tool that can stabilize herd growth. It can reduce the size / frequency of roundups on the way to replacing removals as the agencyβs main management tool.
For decades, the BLM has tried and failed to meet herd population targets that it sets under federal law through removals while choosing not to address reproduction. The BLM spends $100 M+ annually to warehouse captured horses and burros.
π§΅The Bureau of Land Management captured 7,853 #wildhorses and burros and removed them from our public lands during the last fiscal year. That increased the number of captured horses and burros languishing in off-range government holding facilities to 62,734.

β€οΈ You can sponsor Valentino! Sponsoring a wild horse or burro benefits all of our sanctuaryβs 450+ residents. All of our sponsors receive a welcome packet with a photo of their chosen horse or burro and special benefits. Learn more in our bio or at returntofreedom.org/donate/
When Fish & Wildlife decided to remove wild horses from the refuge in 2000, we were worried they would be shipped to auction, then bought for slaughter. We worked with a contractor who gathered them on horseback and brought 50 to us in intact family and bachelor bands.
Valentino was born at our HQ sanctuary. His parents came to us from Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge (Nev.). Wild horses there were werenβt a herd designated for protection under the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act.
β€οΈ Valentineβs Day weekend is a perfect time for our equine assistant, Marina, to introduce you to Valentino, a handsome gelding who turns 25 years old in two days.
