I love the stuff he did with Steve Reid. Haven’t listened to that in ages - thanks for the memory nudge, that’s my headphones tunes sorted for tomorrow.

The 15-minute call where hundreds of 'devastated' Brewdog staff were made redundant The independent brewer and pub chain has been bought by US beverage and cannabis firm Tilray in a Β£33m deal.

Yup. Meanwhile staff from the closed bars will be paid their redundancy from the public purse www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Yeah fair bit down on the Β£1bn or whatever the TSG investment put its value at.

Really enjoyed it. TV needs more whimsical content like that.

The only big businesses making money seem to be the ones off shoring their profits.

I’d be interested to see how deep the hole Brewdog is in is. Currently feels like the high street could be the next 2008. Banks & financiers backing loss making business beyond what’s reasonable because who would want to reclaim those assets in the current market.

Having tried to get NatWest to call me back for the last two weeks about a new project, I’m starting to see why Brewdog found it easier to get a million people to give them Β£20 each.

That TSG deal was the real killer for anyone else’s investment.

Actually… since the sea washed away our pebble garden, that’s not actually a bad idea

I did Barleywine on one of the regionals years ago. It certainly makes the rest of the day interesting

Orange Odell ipa can with distinctive elephant motif

Wasn’t gonna have a beer tonight but a friend brought a couple of these back for me from the US. I bloody love this beer as much now as I did 10 years ago, maybe even more.

I think people in the industry knew much earlier, but private equity & finance companies took longer to catch on. You could still get loads of backing and build a stupidly big brewery long after it was clear that the big brewery buy outs were no longer on the table.

Britain Lost 14,000 Third Places. They Were Called Pubs. Is Your Local Next? How private equity reshaped the local and the postcode tool that shows the pubs most at risk.

Amazing analysis of pub closures in the UK, by @laurenleek.eu, and the corporate interests behind them. Some important political and policy implications open.substack.com/pub/laurenle...

Wonder who’ll be sniffing around this? Feels big beer have their craft shelf space, & even the perennially optimistic private equity investments seem to be less drawn to the craft now. Turning the reputation & finances around is such a big job you may as well invest in something with less baggage.

This is all because Elon β€œit was just a wave and definitely not a Nazi salute” Musk has just realised the Moon is closer than Mars, and so has said space x will go there first rather than straight to Mars. And so all the finance whores will be racing to get a little piece.

I found needing a steady with my camera meant carrying around more stuff than I could be bothered with. I keep thinking about switching my DSLR for a smaller camera because even carrying lenses and flash is a ballache.

Oh yeah, this’ll be amazing. Love the video too. Are they posting these to YouTube? It’s nice to see a proper aspect ratio rather than the nasty Instagram one.

We know about colonising in Britain, we did a lot of it. Generally you take a whole load of wealth from a country and hoard it for yourself… which sounds a bit like our pal Jimmy there. How’s that Β£150m government cash looking Jimmy?

There’s a wealth threshold you cross where you just become a racist prick because it’s suits your accumulation of assets isn’t there? Why does this idiot give a toss about immigration, he could live behind 10ft walls and never see another living soul if he wanted to.

Really enjoying seeing our new branding coming through on cask. It’s simpler and cleaner and lets Duncan Grant’s artwork take centre stage. Much more aligned to our keg and can branding as well

Yeah I really like the Shakespeare. A friend of ours has the London Tavern as well, but he’s been rebuilding it for ages so god knows when that’ll open.

Ah nice. Floc bar coming to town soon as well in the old lifeboat. Best getting booking myself a day out for springtime.

Where is that???? Looks amazing. Been out today looking at pubs. Had a look at a little one in canterbury. Got one to see in Whitstable next week too

Yeah fantastic pub that. We do obviously have some great pubs, but it’s a big step down outside of those

10.02.2026 14:48 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah I noticed that when I was last up there. I might try and get up there for the beer festival again this year. Norwich had a mix, but cask definitely had a strong presence.

10.02.2026 12:33 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah that’s what I find most surprising. The pubs can be busy, but it’s all keg. And even when you do find cask it’s often tired because no one is used to ordering it. Obviously there are exceptions but it still seems a distinct pattern
