BTW, for those who do not know "Kona" means "leeward" in Hawaiian. When we get TREMENDOUS cold fronts the winds back up to the southeast or sometimes southwest ahead of the storm, as opposed to the usual NE trades, hence "Kona storm"

National Weather Service statement: ...POWERFUL KONA STORM TO IMPACT THE STATE THIS WEEK... A powerful kona storm will begin to impact the state as early as Tuesday for the western end of the state and spread across the state on Wednesday. While flash flooding is a major concern (more details can be found on our Hydrologic Outlook ESFHFO), there is increasing confidence for strong to severe thunderstorms on Wednesday especially for the western half of the state. Damaging winds will likely be the greatest threat with any of the strong thunderstorms, but large hail can`t be ruled out either. While details remain uncertain beyond Wednesday, a much stronger wave of thunderstorms and damaging kona winds may be possible Friday into the weekend.

'Alae ke'oke'o (Hawaiian Coot) chicks are considerably more colorful than their parents with their red bills and colorful fluffs of feathers. These guys are IUCN listed as near threatened, but they're federally and Hawai'i state listed as endangered.

She’d Never Changed Her Gender Marker. Kansas Invalidated Her License Anyway. — Assigned A trans Kansas resident recently changed her name but not her gender marker on her license, fearing what Kansas may do if she did. The Kansas DMV still flagged her ID.

This story, from @natezuke.bsky.social, is absolutely wild. A trans woman who never changed her gender marker was issued a letter invalidating her license. At the DMV they cut up her license, which had an "M" marker.
