Why I am running for Labour’s National PolicyΒ Forum By Eleanor Woolstencroft Time after time, young people in the North East have been left behind. Austerity saddled us with crumbling schools, a blatant lack of public services, and little to no sense of opportunity. Now we face rising tuition fees, the managed decline of infrastructure, and no hope of ever owning a home. We have demonstrated that Labour can do better for young people in the North East. This Government has increased minimum wage and introduced the Renters’ Reform Act - but there is so much more to be done.

Absolutely insupportable. Labour have a massive majority. It’s a hugely popular issue. To fail to act would be a dereliction of historic proportions, and utterly inexplicable.

Israeli attacks on UNIFIL peace keepers tonight. Irish service men were not directly hit, but they aided their counterparts from Ghana. This will further deteriorate Irish Israel relations.

Today I want to talk about Jess’ Rule and Martha’s Rule, two new initiatives across NHS England that I think are really important and you should know about.
Tl;dr: if your symptoms are not improving or getting worse, at home or in hospital, you have the right and Drs the responsibility to review.

Analysis Suggests School Was Hit Amid U.S. Strikes on Iranian Naval Base

The 1968 My Lai massacre killed at least 347 civilians. It led to congressional hearings and criminal trials. The bombing of the #Minab school, if confirmed to be an American airstrike, is a comparable massacre and scandal. A dark day in American history.

Ironic Home Sec argues those oppose her settlement reforms must say how they would meet the fiscal costs

1. this Β£10 billion is fictitious + misleading
- it is a cost in 30 years time
- her reforms don't save that cost.

2. Yet Govt finds Β£5.4 billion negative hit of its immigration White Paper

Kristi Noem’s firing is long overdue. She oversaw vile crimes against humanity and we’ll never forget it.

But until ICE is abolished and expelled from our communities, we keep fighting.

Lawless federal agents kidnapping and killing people on our streets can never be normalized.

We also need to know whether AI was used to select the target. WaPo is reporting Anthropic and Palantir tech were used to identify 1000 targets in Iran 24 hours. Who vetted those targets? Who pays for errors? It's possible they weren't involved in this strike but this we need to know.

bsky.app/profile/anja... double-tap strikes, regardless of the target, are usually understood to be Geneva Convention violations because they target the wounded and aid personnel who are specifically protected under international law. The target here makes this an especially staggering evil.

How democratic is the UK? The UK has a crisis of democracy

Did you vote for this?

Wages taxed at marginal rates of 20%-45% + NIC.

Dividends taxed at rates of 8.75% to 39.35%. No NIC.

Capital gains at rates 18% to 32%. No NIC.

Poorest 20% pay higher proportion of income in taxes than the richest 20%.

Democracy and social justice... whose?

If the person in charge of the Home Office openly and brazenly lies about asylum seekers and refugees, how do we know her employees are not lying in asylum hearings?

Today's speech by the Home Secretary marks a dangerous shift to a system where rights are negotiable, discrimination becomes policy & state coercion is reframed as a cost-cutting measure.

If the Government continues down this path, it will not outflank the far-right but normalise it.

Refugee Convention 101. 3 principles. Fair assessment. Non-refoulement. Durable solutions (settlement *OR* safe return).

Untrue - the Convention provides both for the possibility that protection might cease to be necessary (ie the cessation clause: refugee status ends if there's a change in circumstances) AND the possibility it might need to be long-term (ie references to facilitating citizenship of the refuge State)

Labour sets out migrant boat plan in bid to avoid 'Nigel Farage nightmare' In a landmark speech Shabana Mahmood insisted failure to get a grip of the migration system will mean the hard right - referencing Nigel Farage - will get their chance to try

The government's fresh wave of asylum policy proposals are incoherent and cruel.

They risk making our already brutal asylum system impossible to survive, while recreating measures that already exist and failing to establish genuine routes to safety.
