In phone call tonight, President Trump told me this about the death of Ayatollah Khamenei:
"I got him before he got me. They tried twice. Well I got him first."
That’s a reference to what US intelligence believes was a plot to kill Trump in 2024.
“He loved his country, but he hated what people were doing to it.”

Hard to overstate what a remarkable statement this is from a Republican senator — even a retiring one — accusing thte Trump White House of weaponizing DOJ to control the Fed:
"It is now the independence and credibility of the Department of Justice that are in question."
