In today’s daily “talk to a new person about HR” my colleague suggested I probably liked it because of the great shout out to Ottawa… and yes, that’s probably it 😎🤨

Canada cannot fund, arm, or legitimize ICE.

I’ve written to PM Carney calling for sanctions, export bans, cancelled subsidies, and the closure of ICE offices in Canada. Fascist violence and human rights abuses demand action, not silence.

Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset the UK or Australia’s entire carbon footprint.

“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes.

This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com

"The humanities really are a resource — a confidence for living in our times.” Dean Sara Guyer on the modern utility of humanities degrees This interview originally appeared on the Division of Arts

"While other universities report that the humanities are shrinking, at Berkeley, the opposite is true. The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring" bit.ly/4ohKuOe

Investing smartly in public transit checks ALL the boxes right now, @mark-carney.bsky.social. It’s a credible example of both real nation-building & climate action. It’s a proven cost SAVER with a great ROI that makes Canadian cities more successful & competitive. It supports equity & affordability.

Ford government says it will ban speed cameras across Ontario | CBC News Ontario Premier Doug Ford called the traffic enforcement tool a "cash grab" at a news conference in Vaughan Thursday. He said his government will introduce new legislation to ban speed cameras.

The decision to remove speed cameras from Ontario streets is unbelievably irresponsible and flies in the face of clear evidence … even police chiefs are against this populist move. It’s disgraceful.

Kingston transit expanding service into overnight hours The new overnight service will run from midnight to 2 a.m. every evening. It will connect the Cataraqui Centre to First Canada Avenue.

More frequency and expanding off-peak service to benefit shift workers - what a concept!

Imagine if New Ways to Bus did this instead of cutting service to the bone.

It sounds nice to have your own pool, but have you considered how amazing it is to have a pool in walking distance where there's almost always friends and snacks around, trained lifeguards, and zero extra costs or maintenance on your end. Public amenities are amazing!

Note that the City of Ottawa has been without a chief planner since 2022.
