The tree was diseased and was cut down last year. This past holiday season I searched for its replacement but didn’t find one. I really wanted to put up a Gaia memorial card. And one for my cat that passed before the holidays.
He caused a commotion with the gulls and pigeons but did nab a rat for lunch. I caught him flying around with his prize, the crows were mobbing them. He is the bird that lands on the light post. Part 2/2.
This Swainson’s Hawk has been visiting a recycling plant for 4 years (and there’s a Federal jail nearby!) We caught him perched under an overhang but only saw its back. As we were getting ready to leave the Hawk flew low.

Mei Mei was so smol.
The Swainson’s will be looking to mate…?
Not sure. Hoping its not sick with the Avian Flu. If its the 1st breeding season maybe they got lost looking for the other RBMs. We’ve had stray solo birds that are here for a season.
This Red-breasted Merganser has been hanging out in a very small section of water at Green-Wood.

At Coney Island the Greater Scaups aren't looking for Nathan’s hotdogs. In the winter they dine on clams, mussels and oysters.

Did your camera survive the cold?
Is that octopus for you or Coco?
They eat vegetation.
They use their feet for more things than swimming. They can balance on reeds using those feet.
