I assume he's dead at this stage due to meagre Iranian pushback, but why would any journalist, in modern times, just take Israel and US's word for it?

Fascinating and bizarre to watch US media report Khamenei's death with "Israel says" and "Trump confirms" without any other verification.
Some residents threatened with eviction told us that electrical safety certificates on many of their flats were issued without an electrician actually gaining access to the properties in question. Every single electrical safety certificate we saw also had identical results, despite being supposedly conducted across flats in multiple buildings that are miles apart. The electrician whose name was on the paperwork, with a signature dated only a few months ago, could not be traced. The business that the certificates stated the electrician worked for had been liquidated three years ago. When I visited the electricianβs stated headquarters on a busy road in Greenwich, I found an abandoned unit. The current leaseholder told me simply: βThere is no electrician in the building. The shop is empty.β
this is NUTS. sorry to keep fan-girling, but the level of reporting is just exceptional.
The rest of the world is imperfect, huge, and complicated, so cannot be generalised, but in the case of Westerners posting in English on major social platforms, like X, Facebook, and Instagram, then yes, itβs mainly Americans, and this is has been backed up by heaps of research.
Americans on the Internet, to be accurate
Two days after saying Russia doesn't want global conflict, Dmitry Medvedev is now on X implying that a nuclear "winter is coming," following the expiration of Russia's nuclear weapons treaty with the US.
SPAM TEXT which reads: "Good morning! My name is Angelina Jolie, and I am a recruitment consultant within the Human Resources division at Amazon. I would like to present a remarkable online employment opportunity that may suit your needs. Commitment of just 15-45 minutes daily; all you require is a smartphone or a computer."
With all the Washington Post layoffs happening, it makes me wonder how much Bezos is paying Angelina Jolie to be an Amazon recruiter

I cannot emphasize how much βbe the newsβ is the opposite of what I was taught about how to be a good journalist and strikes me as an excellent way to churn out elite solipsism that has nothing to do with the public interest and everything to do with self promotion www.nytimes.com/2026/01/13/b...
I despair

"Grok announced on X..." the Guardian writes.
Again, Grok is not a person and cannot deliver statements on behalf of anyone.
Rewrite: "X announced, in a post delivered via its Grok AI tool, that..."
Q: There's about $17 billion of oil reserves in Venezuela
TRUMP: You mean trillion. Did you say billion or trillion?
Q: I said billion
TRUMP: It's much more than that
Q: So what is going to happen to those reserves?
TRUMP: We're going to run everything
Heβs being sarcastic. Replace BRICS with NATO, and America with Russia.
Also, Hitler wrote *terribly* and if you actually listen to anything he said, he sounds very dumb. The Nazi machine was certainly dedicated to convincing people he was a genius, though.
A scorched boat washed ashore on a remote beach in Colombia. Then mangled bodies. And then empty packets, a few with marijuana traces. We matched the physical and digital evidence to a U.S. airstrike β and found a fishing community terrified to go to sea. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/29/w...

Would that be the same $400 million that the South Carolina transport secretary attributed to the SC General Assembly four months ago?
Former news video editor here. There's a practical reason they don't. They don't have the right to any images of sick people. You can't just grab a picture off google and throw it on tv/your website. You need the rights. So either you filmed it yourself, or a newswire you subscribe to did.
NORAH O'DONNELL: So not concerned about the appearance of corruption with this? PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I can't say, because-- I can't say-- I'm not concerned. I don't-- I'd rather not have you ask the question. But I let you ask it. You just came to me and you said, "Can I ask another question?" And I said, yeah. This is the question-- NORAH O'DONNELL: And you answered-- PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I don't mind. Did I let you do it? I coulda walked away. I didn't have to answer this question. I'm proud to answer the question. You know why? We've taken crypto-- NORAH O'DONNELL: But just generally speak-- PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Excuse me. We're number one in crypto in the whole world. Other people wanna be. They're fighting like hell to be. But we're number one in crypto because I'm the president. Biden wanted to also, at the very end, you know, he totally switched his thing.
"[You're] not concerned about the appearance of corruption with this?"
"I'd rather not have you ask the question."
My mother's response:
If you're curious what AI scam calls sound like, here's a voicemail I just received from "Nicole with Consumer Services".
My co-worker just used OpenAI's Sora 2 to generate a fake video of a bear rummaging through garbage in a Tennessee backyard.
He then asked OpenAI's ChatGPT if the video was real or fake, and it concluded that it was real. π
Unbelievable scoop from Anna Bower.
I genuinely admire the entire lawfare team, but this is bananas-level.
Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...
