@mcrice.bsky.social beware, I feel passionately about this.

Saw Iron Lung tonight and I promise you it is the worst film of all time.

If you've rated it anything higher than that, I can only question your taste in film.

Don't go and see it.

Save 2 hours of your life.

I beg you.

The original Spiderman trilogy is back on Netflix, and honestly it's a warm hug in these trying times.

Did my first race of the Cornish Grand Prix yesterday!

A very modest time but it was about getting around in one piece.

Loved every minute!

Last month I finally bought some glasses for seeing stuff far away and gosh what a treat it is to be able to see again.

Yeah I get it re: jobs.

But AI doing stuff like formatting seems inevitable. I mean, it's basically been possible since those wonky "build a reference" template websites.

They weren't perfect, but it wasn't difficult to see how they'd be superseded.

10.01.2026 08:49 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Students are already pointed to databases of examples of how to reference:

- newspapers
- magazines
- websites
- journals
Etc

Isn't AI for that specific task just a much nicer user experience?

Of course it's very important that they know what counts as a GOOD reliable source. And v important for them to know why they should reference things.

But being penalised for not using a full stop after an initial, or not italicising a title seems unfair.

I'm a big fan of the librarians but isn't citation formatting support a very good example of AI actually being helpful?

It's largely rule-based and arbitrary depending on the style and tbh unless I'm missing something is of no use to students post-education?

All safe and sound down here in Penzance after a blustery evening.

Lights damaged. Trees felled. Portaloos knocked over.

The levels of smugness I feel for booking this week off are unparalleled.

This evening we saw a film called The Housemaid and it was so unbelievably bad it made us angry.

Had a wonderful impromptu coffee this morning with someone I used to work with (and who is now a great friend).

A friendship borne in getting a university through covid. You'll never beat the bonds built in that time, I reckon.

Also did park run. 15th place! Kinda looked like a chicken too.

Happy new year!

2025 was everything i could have asked for and more in-terms of running.

Here's to taking it to the next level in 2026.

Is there any where more hellish in the United Kingdom than Euston Station?

Saying that, I think if I lived in London I'd quite like to just sit in there some days and watch all the panic.

Hitting my first big park run today... number 25!

My leg has absolutely fallen off a cliff this month so it would have to be a miracle to get under 25 minutes.

But next year we go again!

Cars are overrated. It's much better to walk through town on a Sunday carrying a tree.

Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch: Am I addicted to my smartwatch? Millions of us strap them on our wrists 24/7, but they could be making us more stressed.

I've been a smart watch wearer for 4 years now.

I take it off at night because I too was becoming obsessed with the energy level monitoring.

Now I'm overly-obsessed by my heart rate and whether I'm on the verge of cardiac arrest.

Couldn't live without it though.

Had a dream I was working as part of a violent gang shotting Pokemon cards.

Some guy broke into our safehouse with a warhammer saying he'd mess me up if I didnt give him our gyarados shiny.

...I need to stop eating cheese before bed.

Ran the Exmouth park run today. Views were a treat. The headwind for 2.5km was not a treat.

I'm a big fan of keeping strategy short n' sweet.

At a previous job our plan for the redesign of the student app was written on a half-torn up piece of cardboard.

Each meeting we'd say "who's got the plan?" and dig it out.

Losing that artefact is by far one of the biggest regrets in my career.

๐Ÿ’ฏ this!

If you're going to insist on getting me something at least them me give you a list.

I'd love it if people bought me some more bouji ยฃ20 running underwear... but no, beard baubles it is.

This year I'm taking part in procjam, a jam where you make something that makes something.

I was always fascinated by procedural generation, my university dissertation was even focused on it!

If I wasn't such an abysmal programmer, I'd definitely have liked to have spent a career in that area.

Absolutely. It can all change and I really want them to do a great job.

They have some smart people but who are also capable of complete ineptitude:

> Haigh and her mobile
> Lammy and his rod license
> Rayner and stamp duty
> Reeves and rental license

All basic stuff distracting from the work.

I dont think they're doing well, but they inherited a mess so yes give them time.

But looking at all of their "achieved" what there makes you go "wow life is so much better for that!".

Yet the "off track" list probably has the two biggest challenges that will define their years in power.

I decided to run a half-marathon this morning and promised myself I wouldn't stew on the sofa for the rest of the day... and yet here I am.

Finished it in 1 hour and 53 mins! My 4th ever half and my best time yet.
