And it makes people more likely to judge those with service dogs! I hate it.
But I've also noticed an increase in therapy pets being presented as service dogs.
Honestly, if someone has a service animal they aren't taking care of, they don't deserve them. Putting them into a situation where they'll likely poop or urinate on the floor and not picking it up counts as not taking care of them. Accidents happen, but choosing to leave it there is disgusting.
In December, so yuup
There is no excuse to bring your dog to an event where you know they'll have to hold their bowels for HOURS and not be bringing potty pads and poop bags.
This is the 2nd con Ive been to where there's just a dog poop in the middle of the floor before attendees are allowed in.
Look, I know some vendors skirt the rules and bring their non service dog pets, and you're fucking it up for everyone who needs actual service dogs. Stop.
Honestly, any artist who comes out of nowhere starting, say, 2023, and has no body of work showing how they steadily improved over time is suspect in this age.
Oooh, i might need to pick up some things from you, too!
The skeleton of KikiDoodle's booth with carpet and walls, but no artwork up, yet.
Naked booth! It's always fun seeing it in this stage. I get to Seattle an extra day early for ECCC prep since I do the entire setup solo.
She knows Carl doesn't know enough to correct her
Unreliable, always, but my head cannon is that she THINKS everything she says about cat shows is correct, but she's relying on her own unreliable memory from before she became sapient.
It just becomes an info dump with a lot of irreverent info!
And if you ever need extra copies of some pages I can give you files. They give away a free .pdf of it if anyone asks :)
Im going to manifest that we run into one another at a PNW convention and he reveals who he is only after I rant for 3 whole minutes about cat shows and thoroughly embarras myself. I have no face memory, so I'd have no idea who I was talking to.
It's how I have all my best conversations.
Even V, who has only attended a couple of shows with me brought that statement up to go "that really couldn't happen, right?"
Anyway, great books. Very fun.
If it makes you want to do cat show stuff, TICA is a bit more newcomer friendly. Plus they hired me to draw a coloring book which was nifty.
I decided on unreliable narrator when Princess Donut makes a quip about a show persian who knocked up a sphynx at a cat show. So many things would have to go chaotically wrong with a LOT of very bad decisions for that to even remotely have a chance to happen. It wouldn't. But it's a funny statement.
He said "pet shows" and I kinda wonder if he meant... cat AND dog shows.
My reason for that is that I attend local cat shows and .... there just isn't really good money with cat shows. And they are infrequent. I'd love to talk to him one day because I would LOVE to know that history ๐น
They said they did pet portraits at pet shows, so I kinda think that they attended DOG shows, and after writing the book had a cat show person suggest edits to correct certain language, but they just went "๐ฌ close enough..." on most of it, and I would have done the same. Its Too Opaque.
Also, CFA and TICA (cat show clubs within the US) have entirely different scoring systems.
GC is significantly more impressive in CFA, and I had to look that up, because I have SGC and QGC TICA cats (3 and 4 steps above GC).
You don't need to look any of that up.
Opaque, like I said.
Having knowledge of an extremely niche subject that is both well known (everyone knows pet shows are a thing) and yet extremely opaque unless you're IN it, means you just gotta interpret folk's INTENT rather than attempt to correct anything that feels "wrong"
I've been reading Dungeon Crawler Carl with V, and it's GREAT.
My only issue is a very personal one... I understand how cat shows and show cats work, now. I can tell when a writer mixes up dog shows with cat shows or when terminology is gobbeldy gook.
I've decided Donut is an unreliable narrator.
I am very not ready
Beautiful baby!! I have my own <3
