Initiatives like Mearns Masters, led by the ever-brilliant Mari-Clare Mitchell, Fearless Women in Computing, led by the amazing Jack Walker, and the work going on in North Lanarkshire primaries with Callum Croughan's involvement all show whatβs possible.
Really looking forward to the report.

The focus on some of the real barriers - recruitment and retention, infrastructure, professional learning, subject attractiveness & gender gap - has been incredibly valuable, alongside a real spotlight on the excellent practice already happening in our schools, from early years through to secondary.

It was also great to see former pupils and see them thriving.
Hopefully, sharing my story has inspired some of HNC/D students to consider a rewarding career as a Computing Science teacher.

A huge shout out to Margaret Stafford and Iain Shand.
βIt was a pleasure to work alongside John Duff from the @aberdeenuni to promote the new direct route into CS teaching via college. I took the "scenic route" starting from an HNC, itβs a path Iβm immensely proud of.

How school leaders can tackle Scotlandβs tech gender crisis
The growing gender gap in computing science is worrying not only for equality but also the economy - but there are practical, proven strategies schools leader can adopt, says Toni Scullion
βIn Scotland, Computing Science has the largest gender gap of any STEM subject, a trend stuck in place for a decade. βWe often talk about role models, confidence & capability. These are symptoms of the root cause being access & equity.

Science teachers coming into the profession, the lowest we have ever had.
The tech talent pipeline starts in our classrooms and Computing Science at school is an essential part of this. Having enough Computing Science teachers is essential for the subject to thrive,

A great afternoon spent with two brilliant fellow Computing Science teachers championing and spreading the word about being a Computing Science teacher.
There are only 550 Computing Science teachers in Scotland, the lowest number we've ever had and we only had 16 new Computing

If we donβt act fast, we wonβt see equality in our lifetimes. This event wasnβt just a step in the right direction; it was a critical action to ensure girls are the architects of a future designed for everyone.

Unfortunately, there is still no equity of access to Computing Science in Scotland. Not every pupil has the opportunity to study the subject and discover whether itβs something they enjoy. For too many, the door isnβt just closed, there is no door.

Edinburgh teacher calls for action on computer science gender gap
Computing science teacher Toni Scullion is working with St Georgeβs School in Edinburgh to inspire more female students to pursue a career in tech
CS at school level in Scotland continues to have the largest gender gap of all traditional STEM subjects and has done for over a decade.
Itβs a real privilege to be involved in such an inspiring initiative. Together, we can close the gender gap in CS.
