I wish I could take credit for it, but a few Bird folks wrote it, doing a far better job than I could.

"But we're here, as they say, to do our thing: to bitch and badger, carp and cry, and perhaps give Atlanta...a bit of honest and interesting and, we trust, even readable journalism," is possibly my favorite news passage of all time.
The βaverted a mass shootingβ framingβas if it was a certaintyβis problematic. Itβs certainly what APD wants reported, but news orgs should approach it with more nuance. The potential alleged shooter obviously needed intervention, but saying he was going to shoot is pre-crime shit.
When you are a local public affairs news outlet and you put out what certainly appears to be a paid PR piece glorifying a developer whose favorite book isβ¦(wait for it)
The Fountainhead.

Don't worry. I also said to myself, wait, what the fuck? We have an airport secret shopper program?
We really don't have to pretend Charlie Kirk wasn't an abhorrent person, even if you disagree with the political violence used to oppose him.
Unfortunately, no live thread for the Atlanta City Council today. I caught covid over the weekend, and Iβm still under the weather.
Was this just a shameless promotion of my newsletter? Maybe. Sign up here: atlpresscollective.com/newsletter
I send out the Rising Report every other week. It typically includes content not published anywhere else, if you want more incentive.
In a small personal victory, I finished my newsletter for Thursday two days in advance (except for the section that will be about a hearing happening tomorrow). I was incentivized to write in advance because of other stories I have to write this week, but I'll still take the dub.
Yeah, I definitely brain farted on that one. Thanks for catching it!

Would Blau vs. GDOC not apply here?
I assume youβre not talking about ACPC. Iβm literally in the courthouse.
Don't be collaborationist media.
Rest, glad you got them down.
Weβre pretty sure this case is a misunderstanding of the Boolean operators and key words we requested.
Newsrooms: Don't publish mass shooter manifestos.
NB: I absolutely would have called it a Nazi salute on that post if I wasn't trying to skirt the moderation system
First reported by @atlpresscollective.com, Atlanta City Councilmember Andrea Boone, daughter of Civil Rights leader Joseph E. Boone, filed a motion to ban warming centers from 1000 feet of a school Monday, when the entire city mustered two warming centers in an area of 134 sq. mi.
It passed 10-1.
Jason Dozier told the rest of Council he had two locations he wanted to use for his own any emergency services as situations arise, so he was the sole no vote.
There wasnβt a rationale given. Amir Farokhi originally said heβd vote against it because he had a center he thought was within the banned distance, but the city attorney said that center was fine. So he voted for it.
Same board. Theyβre supportive of the OIG, except for the Atlanta Business League representative.
I donβt think the gulch deal is under the OIGβs purview, unless some sort of illicit payment took place.
Right after I wrote this tweet, the Council reconsidered Cop City funding, and it passed.
Council voted to Fund PAD. Funding for Cop City failed to pass. Task force recommendations that would hurt the OIG were held in committee. A $1.5 million contract to a lobbyist was sent back to committee.
This is the craziest council meeting.
For kicks and giggles I deleted my _atproto for this account. Weβll find out the query time
