Today I get to be a part of my first new game. To say I’m proud of myself and my peers would be an understatement.
As a lifetime fan, working at Bungie has been a dream come true.
From Witch Queen to Marathon, it’s been an absolute privilege.

I remember thinking “That sounds amazing…but it’s not a game for me.” Then I playtested it and had a blast. I found myself thinking about it days later. I still remember exfilling for the very first time (many, many playtests later) and the rush of adrenaline that was! I was happily proven wrong.
I still remember walking through Bungie HQ with Marathon’s Services Engineering Lead, talking about what the game was going to be. This was back when it was just whiteboard design without even a prototype yet. It was mind blowing to me to be involved that early in development!
I’ve shipped six Destiny expansions and hundreds of patches and content updates. But building a new game, and all of its supporting infrastructure, from scratch was an entirely different experience.
For years, I said I didn’t really feel like a game dev. I still do the same work I’ve always done; the difference is now I work on a product that I love and for a company I want to support.
Working on Destiny has been great, but working on Marathon truly made me *feel* like a game dev!

Today is a very special day for me.
@marathonthegame.bungie.net is the first new @bungie.net game in nine years, the first non-Destiny game in 16, and the first Marathon game in 30.
It’s also the first full title I’ve ever shipped and the first time I’m credited in a game as an Engineering Lead.

All that to say, this thread is a good example of what I love about @marathonthegame.bungie.net . The stories that come out of runs are so great. I have so many fun ones from playtesting over the years! Don't get me wrong - the narrative is incredible, but so are player driven stories, like these!
In my second run, I was the only one with a contract. We knocked that out in under a minute then one of my crewmates activated the guarded supplies event. It was tough with all of us on sponsored kits, but we pulled it off and were handsomely rewarded (blue shield, green guns, blue salvage, etc).
...towards North Relay for the Contested Exfil. We saw another team activate it, let the UESC soften them up a bit, and then took them all out. The fight was long enough that the exfil fired while we were all fighting. Eventually, we won and all exfilled with stacked (for Perimeter) inventories.
Jokes aside, I just did crew fill and was really impressed with the players I matchmade with. In my first run, we knocked out our contracts in under two minutes, ran to Hauler, and tried to jump the team we heard there. They managed to exfil, though, so we looted what they left. Then we went back...
Overall, I'm happy with how today went. There were issues, sure, but this is one of the most stable launches I've worked on!
When I finally logged off, I only had time to play the intro mission and two full runs...but after those two incredibly successful runs...uh...I'm noticing a trend here...

I actually don’t know. All I can say is that you should all be thankful that I didn’t work on them in *any* capacity!
