Agreed with the shaming part - I don’t do it. However, to downplay the importance of sitting in a classroom, learning more (at whatever cost) obtaining an advanced degree, then getting the experience sorta amplifies (usually positive) impact of the person. Grew up poor, enlisted to get my degrees.

Hmmm, maybe a similar reason why doctors, CPA, teachers and engineers (for example) and other important professional careers require them….? Critical thinking and high-pressure situations/events benefit from higher education.
