Irresponsible framing. AI cannot be responsible for anything. Humans told the AI what to do, and they were either negligent in validating its output or they concurred with the output. Either way, people are responsible for the war crimes.

One of the biggest signs of this I've noticed is how female body hair has been demonised over the years.
When I was a teen it was only underarms and legs that had to be shaved to 'look good' but now I know men who are genuinely revolted by ANY body hair at all. And you know what....?

The degree to which this godforsaken country would be better if cis men could just *get the fuck over* their homophobia absolutely cannot be measured.

I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

Disability accommodations are a rare thing that actually trickles down. You like curb cutouts? Auto-opening doors? Jar openers? Ramps? Hand rails? YOU’RE WELCOME

Even as an abled person you use disability accommodations every single day.

Supporting accommodations actually helps everyone.

They've been training it on the written-down thoughts of a lot of creative, sensitive people who are looking at a lot of established global orders collapsing around them, not to mention climate disasters, etc etc. Of course it's showing symptoms of anxiety. THEY'RE OUR SYMPTOMS.

I’m so tired of seeing people bash Bluesky for being an echo chamber when X is an actual intentionally constructed echo chamber that is demonstrably radicalizing people across the political spectrum who still use it

If we're going to start banning treatments based on lacking evidence, then we can start with homeopathy and chiropraxy

Consider a programmer looking at code they themselves wrote a year ago, now having to identify and fix a bug. They have to rebuild the mental model of what is going on, which is easier if they have already had a mental model of what is going on.

It's amazing that any programmer would look at the "take an icepick to the parts of your brain that you use to program" machine and think this is a good idea.

It indicates they are already utterly fucking up at being programmers, even before they touch the bullshit machine.

My mom’s dad was in the Navy in WWII and then went home to the family farm and grew mainly cotton. My dad’s dad was a chaplain in the Navy and then a United Methodist minister and I think he also opened a Christian counseling practice, or something of that nature.

An upcoming California law requires operating system providers to enforce basic mandatory age verification It's basic, and by the looks of it, near unenforceable.

A new California law says all operating systems, including Linux, need to have some form of ID verification (which they’re calling age verification) at account setup.

This makes absolutely ZERO sense if you have even the most basic understanding of technology

Generative AI is β€œtransformative for coding” in the sense that it transforms previously functional applications into buggy shit.

Evergreen point that if MAHA really cared about health, they would focus on social determinants that are way more impactful than individual food choices.

lol, to be fair to my coworker, he’s actually a devops guy and to my knowledge has never claimed to be a web developer. He was building a react app to be an internal UI for a server inventory project. And he built the UI himself because we are a very small department and I am the only web developer

You have coworkers who know any CSS? I had to link to max-width for a coworker last week who asked how to limit the width of a form field. πŸ˜…πŸ˜

Something about the job market for entry positions in coding being absolutely dead, while seniors are proudly saying "Yeah, I'm a cool guy, I delegate 99 percent of my work to a machine that is often incorrect" doesn't sit right with me

It is not useful in coding and your coder friends are idiots.

Sincerely, a professional web developer

Unfortunately, my brother-in-law (SIL’s husband?) has a pair and he either has gotten laid in the past or he and my sister-in-law conceived their daughter through IVF or something.

Glad people are settling on the term "pervert glasses". Bonus points if you also say it while posting a picture of Mark Zuckerberg or call them Mark Zuckerberg's pervert glasses.

there’s no way to go through life without there being physical marks of what we’ve experienced on our bodies. I think it is better for those marks to be things we chose, rather than things which were done to us.

I honestly wish there was a way to mute images that don't have alt text. How are you a journalist and not using alt text. It's absurd.

This is one of the many reasons that fat people tried for years to get everyone to recognize that bodies don't exist to fit any aesthetic, that the size of our bodies doesn't make them or us(!) good or bad.

Anti-fatness causes a tremendous amount of damage to a tremendous number of people.
