"These Irish songs are about being colonized, about fighting back, about keeping your sanity when the powerful conspire against you. Thatβs been true the whole time, but a moment like this occupation forces each of us to confront our values."
What a joke. Evangelicals must be purged from the many positions they have.
And this is not a religion thing. I worked for Jesuits at St. Joseph's, they are serious people who do serious scholarship who hire unbelievers like me.
But evangelicals are incompatible with an equitable modern society.

One of my favorite recorded concerts ever. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's 1975 Hammersmith Odeon. In addition to amazing music and performances, it features truly awe inspiring clothing choices from every member of the band.

In every Republican presidency of my lifetime there's been a recession and a new war in the Middle East.
Doing a translation of a novel and one the presses I sent it to suggested sending it to University presses, is that a thing? It's not like, an academicy novel, it's magical realism
Thank you! When she was a kitten she had the biggest ears, so between that and her patterns I decided to name her Ahsoka!
In the Hobbit, Beorn's house is full of animals who serve food for him. Beorn is a cross between Conan and Snow White. He's the best.
This is the look of Ahsoka in her crazy mood and she NEEDS attention and will jump and start clawing and gnawing if she doesn't get it RIGHT NOW.
True madness. The fact that on both state and federal level they just destroy every possible language and area studies program is true madness. Even here at Rutgers they are gutting languages, which are not dependant on federal funding, because the new president seems to just care about sports.
thinking again about how indiana had a top-tier academic department (founded as a military language training program) where one could take full courses in sorani and kurmanji kurdish and persian and actually gain expertise and they just decided to destroy it because the classes were small
As a growing crop of young candidates challenge longtime Democratic incumbents, some are not just breaking through in the money race, but outraising their opponents altogether. n.pr/3NgKMIE
We need better Democrats.
Not a single dollar more for Trumpβs illegal war.
Thank you for spreading the good word about sound historical research methods! It is crazy how easy people fall for this sort of thing.
Once a simple proofreading tool, Grammarly is now bristling with AI features and a suite of "expert" agents based on the works of real authors. But the company doesn't ask permission and in some cases offers feedback from virtual versions of dead writersβincluding one historian who died in January.
It is a reminder that as bad as things are, they can always get worse. And we have to work to stop them from getting worse.
There were attempts at giving high minded excuses to hide imperialism, and funding was given to study the regions and peoples they were invading as opposed to cutting every possible study and contact with the outside world.
Screenshot from Andor "They don't even bother to lie badly anymore. I suppose that's the final humiliation."
I find myself nostalgic for Bush's War on Terror, when warcrimes and wars in the Middle East were justified by lies and fictions. Bush and co were despicable criminals but they at least tried to hide it.
As is often the case, Star Wars: Andor sums it up succinctly.
Newsom is a scumbag who will go whatever way he thinks the winds will blow. See his betrayal of trans folks. When it comes to Israel certainly I want someone who actually believes and will follow through with what they say.
BUT it is great to see he realizes that being pro-Israel is a non-starter.

That is great to hear! We talked a lot about the possibilities of digital free courses vs other options in the teaching History course I audited last semester. It is great to hear how it works in action.
I suspect many faculty here in New Brunswick may be interested in your experiences as well.

A small brown dog with a collar is walking underneath a horse. The dog has a fluffy tail and long hair. Also, it's teeth look super sharp, like those that puppies use bite your toes while you're eating breakfast at a table. The horse has been coloured reddish-orange. Oh man that is amazing! What an amazing first concert!
I loved the X-wing games and especially books, so I am so excited for this!
