This speed boost, along with easier implementation on Linux clusters for parallelization, opens up new possibilities for using SB-DLNMs with large-scale datasets. Imagine continent-wide analyses! 🌍
Despite the significant speed improvement, the results from our R-INLA implementation are highly comparable to those from WinBUGS, showing similar temperature-mortality associations and spatial risk distributions.
Good news! We've rewritten SB-DLNMs in R-INLA, drastically cutting down computation time. For our case study on temperature-mortality in Barcelona, execution time dropped from over 14 days to just 25 minutes! ⏱️🔥
Originally, we implemented SB-DLNMs using WinBUGS, which was effective but computationally intensive (think weeks of execution time! 😫). Check out our previous work on this here: academic.oup.com/ije/article/...
